The Arc Western Montana (The Arc) is seeking an energetic, collaborative, and team-oriented HR Generalist to join a dynamic HR Team. The Arc is a leading nonprofit organization in Missoula providing 24/7 services to adults with developmental disabilities. Position Summary

Provide support for the Chief Human Resources Officer in recruitment efforts, new hire orientation and onboarding, reporting, payroll and benefits, and company policy and procedure adherence. In addition, this position will develop strong relations with managers in order to provide support with their human resource needs.


Major Areas of Focus

  • Be a trusted, primary point of contact for general questions, concerns, and policy interpretation. Establish strong connections both internally and externally.
  • Lead the recruitment and new-hire related activities including interviewing, pre-employment screening and onboarding.
  • Manage all data and processes in relation to new hires, terminations and status changes in multiple systems for payroll and benefits.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Accountant in payroll procedures. Lead the processing of weekly timecards, timekeeping edits, and administer various pay.
  • Reconciles insurance invoices.
  • Administers various benefit plans with employees, such as life, health, dental, vision, disability insurance and 403(b) plans.
  • Annually generate 1095-C Forms. Accurately upkeep ACA spreadsheet throughout the year.
  • Maintains employee personnel files, I-9s and other pertinent record keeping information.
  • Complete First Reports of Injury and works with Director of HR on workers compensation claims.
  • Compiles turnover data for review by management.
  • Performs reception back-up duties as needed such as answering phones, handling incoming and outgoing mail, and greeting customers.


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university.
  • Two or more years of related experience preferred.
  • Combination of education and experience will be considered.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to adhere to and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Must be proficient with use of timekeeping and spreadsheet software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills including the ability to write reports, business correspondence and instructive manuals using proper grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to read, compile, analyze, and interpret information and written communications, technical procedures and government regulations in an easily understood manner.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships within all levels of the organization including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and managers, clients, applicants and possibly the general public.
  • Must have ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Must also be able to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited information or standardization exists.
  • Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities simultaneously in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work self-directed as needed.
  • Must possess valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
