The Robert Baker Group of Companies located in Windsor Locks Connecticut plays a vital role in the growing and distribution of horticultural products. With facilities in 6 states, The Robert Baker Group of Companies is a leading supplier to Retail Garden Centers, Landscapers, Schools and Municipalities in the Northeast.
Reporting to the COO, the Human Resource Coordinator is responsible for some or all of the following functional areas: hiring, new hiring paperwork, recruiting, policy manuals, employee relations, H2A administration, conflict resolution, complaint investigation and resolution, disciplinary issues, employee benefit administration to name a few.
He/she must be able to demonstrate strong judgement and handle the most complex and sensitive issues, professionally, tactfully and strategically.
Key Responsibilities:
H2A
· Working with General Managers, oversees all applications, compliance, mandatory paperwork, files and audits
· Maintains current with all changes to H2A regulations.
· Coordinates all team efforts at Medford Nursery to provide proper and effective record keeping` and procedures to comply with all State and Federal requirements of the H2A program
General:
· Maintains updated job requirements, job descriptions for all positions and company handbook(s)
· Develop staffing strategies to attract top talent, improve bench strength and position company as “Employer of Choice” within the industry.
· Develop/place all recruitment ads and screen resumes for potential candidates coordinating efforts with hiring Managers
· Establishes recruitment and interviewing program, counseling/training Managers on recruitment, selection and conducting effective interviews
· Training Managers to coach and discipline employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; counseling employees and supervisors.
· Oversight of employee relations issues to include hiring procedures, terminations, team conflicts, discrimination, performance issues, complaints, written warnings, disciplinary actions etc
· Maintains employee benefit programs and informs employees of benefits
· Directs the processing of benefit claims and paperwork
· Labor law compliance state and federal for all companies
· Must be aware of federal and state employment laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act,
The Fair Labor Standards Act, ADA, FMLA, The National Labor Relations Act and other applicable rules and regulations.
· Tracking workers comp claims, management of claims and training of Managers/Supervisors in proper procedures to effectively return team members to full duty.
· Administration of medical, dental and 401K plans
· Sexual Harassment Compliance
· Maintain federally mandated logs for workplace injury reporting
· Ensure compliance with employment legislation
· Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
· BS Degree in Human Resources
· Successful track record of strong recruitment skills.
· Minimum 3 year experience working in Human Resources
· Experience with H2A Programs Preferred
· Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, along with strong presentation and public speaking skills.
· Superior interpersonal, coaching, negotiation and consultative skills.
· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
· Must be willing to travel when required
