REAL Journey Academies (RJA) is a non-profit charter school management organization designed to significantly increase college entrance and graduation rates for underserved students in the Inland Empire. We aim to impact and revitalize communities through the development of education and other supportive partnerships.

Essential Job Function:

Educational Support Personnel are non-certificated personnel who will have duties aligned to instructional support and supervision, as well as non-instructional support duties. ESPs will be assigned assist student learning under the direction of a certificated teacher or administrator. An ESP will assist with assigned instructional support activities; as well as support the educational, social-emotional and physical progress of RJA students. ESPs will also be assigned to non-instructional duties, including student supervision and support. The role of an ESP in RJA schools is varied, and flexibility is necessary for success.

Reporting Structure:

Educational Support Personnel report to the building administrator, unless otherwise designated by the CEO or Chief Academic Officer.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Works with students, both ingroup settings or individually, for the purpose of assisting with specific instructional tasks.
  • Under the teacher’s supervision, implements instructional programs for the purpose of meeting student’s goals and objectives.
  • Administers tests to students for the purpose of assessing progress towards meeting educational objectives.
  • Prepares classroom and instructional materials for the purpose of ensuring that the learning environment is ready for students.
  • Adapts classroom work under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce lesson plans.
  • Monitors activities of students both inside and outside of the classroom for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provide support in management and behavior of students.
  • Maintain awareness of physical and emotional changes in students and reports concerns to teacher as appropriate.
  • Works with children in a separate setting who are experiencing behavioral and emotional issues.
  • Provides class supervision while the teacher is away from the classroom, as assigned.
  • Performs clerical and related duties that support instruction programs, such as copying materials.
  • Operates a variety of office and instructional equipment including computers.
  • Travel with and provide supervision of students for school related activities.
  • Attend RJA meetings, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor, or assigned building administrator.

  • Builds trust and ongoing positive relationships with constituents, including administrators, teachers, students and parents.
  • Maintain regular attendance; adhere to RJA practice regarding attendance and leaves of absence.
  • Perform all outlined duties and responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position with strict confidentiality.
  • Immediately communicate any concerns directly to their supervisor and/or building administrator.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, required. College coursework, strongly desired.


Physical demands:

  • Ability to exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, stooping and reaching for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional computer work including but not limited to typing.

  • Commensurate with qualifications, aligned to REAL Journey Academies policy.
