Position Overview:

Mount Saint Mary Academy, an all-girls Catholic high school in Buffalo, NY, serving grades 9-12, is seeking as a dance teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.. The successful teacher will energize the dance program, working as a champion of dance in an educational setting. The ideal candidate will be a master teacher who inspires students to push creative boundaries, and needs to have a desire to embed into the school culture, uphold school expectations; while being team-oriented, collaborative, self-motivated, proactive, accessible, flexible, and charismatic.

Qualifications:

• B.A. or higher in dance and/or dance education
• Performance experience preferred
• Experience teaching high school dance technique and composition to dancers of various levels and setting choreography on young dancers of various skill levels
• Expertise in teaching contemporary technique; ability to teach other techniques is a plus
• Experience directing dance productions
• Experience with differentiation and teaching mixed-level dance classes
• Experience teaching dance in a school setting
• Knowledge and relationships with local dance companies, programs, performance artists, and choreographers

Responsibilities:

• Teach basic dance classes, advanced dance, lyrical dance and fitness classes
• Create a collaborative and safe environment for learning and creative expression
• Collaborate with the physical education team to ensure that dance and fitness classes meet NYS Physical Education standards
• Collaborate with the MSM Fine Arts department to continue to ensure robust arts offerings in our school community. Help organize and direct Fine Arts concerts and events.
• Additional opportunities could include: teaching musical theater and/ or acting class, involvement in the annual high school musical production, providing dance expression for school assemblies and prayer experiences

Other Details:

The contract year for this position is 10 months (September- June). Possibility to be part-time. Salary will be based on previous teaching experience, educational study and professional background. This information is used to determine faculty step scale placement.
