SUMMARY: The Health Services Specialist will provide triage and direct appropriate medical care to Seaboard Triumph Food employees who are injured on the job. The specialist will support the WC Manager as needed in maintaining the workers compensation files, maintaining OSHA logs, scheduling doctor appointments, maintain contact with claimants, assisting with restricted duty program, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to be all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned.

· Triage, treat (first aid) and direct appropriate medical care as needed for all work-related injuries within company protocols.

· Accurately and timely completion of First Reports of Injury and maintain and update employee work comp records in CCMSI’s ICE system according to established policies /procedures.

· Effectively communicate and update all members of the health services department on the status of claimants.

· Effectively communicate with the worker’s compensation manager, health services specialists and operation management keeping them updated and informed on open claims, status of injured employees and any specific issues.

· Act as a liaison between health professionals, work comp adjusters, work comp manager and management regarding the status of injured employees.

· Maintain the accuracy and timeliness of data entry on the OSHA 300 Log under the direction of the Plant Safety Manager.

· Maintains complete confidentiality of all medical data in accordance with HIPPA regulations.

· Adhere and support all values/Codes of Conduct of the company at all times.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires knowledge of emergency treatment and triage acquired through an emergency medical technician certification, nursing diploma or equivalent. Current certification to practice in the state of Iowa is required. A minimum of 2 years of directly related work experience in the field of emergency healthcare is preferred. A current basic life support card is required. Certifications in CAOHC, BAT, and DOT specimen collector helpful, but not required.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, employees and management personnel.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, medical terminology. Must be able to effectively communicate with injured workers, third party medical providers, and management personnel. Bilingual skills a must in Spanish.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. Able to work well with others in achieving the goals of the company.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is required to sit; use hands to finger; handle; or feel/hold objects; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; speak; hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to cold/hot and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed airborne particles, cold/hot temperature and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is normal for an office environment. The work environment includes climate extremes found in all areas of plant operations.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management and, while generally as shown below, may be changed (to include decrease or increase) by management as required.

· Hours of Work: Generally, 9 or more hours/day as scheduled by management. B shift: 2pm start time (earlier or later as needed)

· Days of Work: Typically, Monday-Friday as scheduled by management and weekends if needed by operations and approved by management.
