The HIM Specialist is responsible for reviewing medical records after discharge for completeness in compliance with thhe hospital's bylaws, CMS standards, federal and state requirements. Completes daily stats and distributes. Scans paper documentation into Epic. Obtains information for processing an accurate and complete birth certificate. Answers phones and assists customers with release of information. -Responsible for performing release of medical information for requestors. - Prepares daily department out-going mail and delivers to the mail room. - Answers Health Information department telephone and takes accurate messages and transfers calls to other staff members. - Collects and scans all discharged medical records and loose filing from patient care units on a daily basis. - Analyzes medical records of discharged patients for completeness and accuracy, enters deficiencies into computer. - Prepares daily census reports and distibutes as necessary. Forwards montly statistical reports to specific departments and administration by the 1st week of the next month. - Collects and processes birth certificates. - Maintains EPIC MyChart including proxy information. - Performs other duties as assigned.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to manage multiple priorities, effectively monitor performance objectives, work and make decisions under pressure and meet deadlines, goals and objectives as set forth. - Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. - Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. - Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. - Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. - Professionalism and strong work ethic.

- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. - Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. - 1-2 year college degree from Medical Administrative or Health Information Program. 2-3 years of experience in a similar position preferred.
