The Opportunity

The Head of Portfolio and Business Architecture is responsible for shaping the business strategy and managing the project/program portfolio of MRSI to implement that strategy on an appropriate timescale. This role is a key member of the operations and technology leadership team, reports to the Chief Operating Officer and leads a team of operating model and platform design owners in engaging with our business, technology and analytic partners to continuously improve the end to end underwriting, claims and other integrations. The right candidate will have extensive experience in the commercial insurance market implementing platform based solutions such as CRM, Policy, Billing and Claims systems as well as have a unique ability to align technology and analytics with the overall operating vision.

Major responsibilities include:
  • Manage and Prioritize MRSI’s portfolio of work – business-as-usual, as well as transformative activies. Success is evidenced by all key stakeholders aligned on medium and long-term use of MRSI’s resources
  • Responsible for the overall business architecture and operational processes and ensures the appropriate platforms and products enable and make feasible the business strategy.
  • Works closely with business and technical executives to understand and enhance the company’s operating model and commercial objectives and how they translate into efficient and standardized business processes and platforms.
  • Drives the development and socialization of a strategic operating roadmap and product plan within the context of critical business needs, technology needs, pain points and business impact.
  • Identifies and understands emerging product and platform trends in the commercial insurance space.
  • Leads a team focused around customer experience definition, platform feature development and prioritization and business process development and automation in the commercial specialty insurance market.
  • Partners with other functions across the MRSI organization to execute the development process with technical teams, internal partners and external vendors including writing business requirements / use cases / user stories, working with legal / compliance, conducting user acceptance testing and communicating project status
  • Partners with the change management function to lead the definition of product success criteria (cost, quality/scope and time-to-market) and identify and drive resolution of ambiguities with technology & business partners
  • Partners with IT and analytic counter parts to introduce appropriate technology solutions and ideas, significantly contributing to the overall roadmap for our internal platforms.Ensure end-to-end integrity of the business capability using deep subject matter expertise and past experience to ensure it is designed and developed to meet our business objectives.Manages a department of managers and senior professionals.

Your profile

Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:
  • 10+ years of operations management experience and delivering business and IT transformation and process improvement projects in a commercial specialty insurance market
  • Proven track record of leading target operating model initiatives with substantial positive business results.
  • Deep knowledge of insurance platforms, integrated and automation technologies as well as insurance end to end underwriting and claims processes.
  • Strong experience leading a team in translating a business objective and strategy into a defined services, operating model, product vision and roadmap and then executing on the required roadmap.
  • Demonstrated analytical problem-solving skills: identifying opportunities for improvement, applying a disciplined approach to determine root cause, then creating and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Strong relationship management skills. This person will work across a large group of stakeholders, including involvement with some outside partners, demanding strong interpersonal skills, influence management and written/oral communication skills.
  • Strong influencer with an ability to translate technical concepts in a manner that is easily understood by the business
  • Ability to understand, evaluate and adopt new technologies quickly.
  • Bachelor’s degree required

The Company is open to considering candidates in NYC. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s NYC location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $240,500 to $352,700plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).

The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position in NYC. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most candidates will start in the bottom half of the range.
