The Data and Analytics division (DAA) is dedicated to data asset creation, data engineering, advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence. We shape and coordinate Munich Re’s agenda in these fields to take advantage of the growing opportunities provided by data and analytics. Our goal is to enable new and better business for our core business and enable the creation of new strategic business models through data & analytics.

The Data Asset team is the driver of Munich Re’s data strategy and the key partner for services around data and data products. We strategically invest in the creation of data assets, source external data and together with Business and Central Units, build accessible high quality data products using internal as well as externally available data. At the exciting forefront of the digital transformation and the rapidly growing importance of data, it is our mission to enable the organization to generate additional bottom-line results by leveraging the power of data.

The Data Asset Team is based out of Munich, Germany and the United States (Princeton, NJ and NYC) and works with internal and external partners across the globe. The team closely liaises and jointly drives projects with all business units and central units. For our US based team, we are looking for an inspiring leader with impressive expertise in insurance, data and technology, proven leadership skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

In addition to the responsibility for the US Data Assets team, this role will take over responsibility for the Regional Analytics Center (RAC) for North America.

YOUR JOB
  • Lead, coach and develop a business-oriented team with diverse backgrounds and skills to enable the team to continuously increase business impact
  • Enhance and refine Munich Re’s data strategy based on a deep understanding of the demand from business and central functions
  • Develop and execute strategy to support the US organization in particular
  • Develop new ideas of data-driven use cases which support the improvement of bottom-line results
  • Take over leadership on global projects with high strategic relevance
  • As a member of the Data leadership team, drive strategic initiatives for the global Data organization
  • For the RAC, lead and grow a team of data engineers (d/e) and hire a small team of data scientists (d/s)
  • As the RAC lead, ensure efficient flow of information and alignment with Global Central Analytics and drive collaboration between the US based data analytics initiatives.
  • As the RAC lead, drive strategic workforce planning and talent management (this includes the further development of strategic relationships with two of the most prestigious US universities.

Your profile

  • 8+ years of experience in insurance, 5+ years in technology and data preferred
  • 5+ years management experience preferred
  • Insurance knowledge in general required, experience in actuarial or underwriting roles a plus
  • Passion for data, high energy and enthusiasm to lead and develop a team in a very dynamic environment
  • Mind-set of delivering business impact at scale through data, paired with an entrepreneurial personality and a track record of using data and technology to lift an organization to the next level
  • Exceptionally talented in building trustful relationships and networks in a complex organization and in aligning different interests and objectives of heterogeneous stakeholder groups
  • Deep understanding of modern data science, statistical modelling, and machine-learning techniques and their application in (re)insurance as well as related technology
  • University degree in economics, mathematics, computer science, data science / AI or comparable formal qualification
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex problems to a diverse audience
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
