TITLE: Harm Reduction Specialist- Plymouth and Wareham

PROGRAM: Sexual and Reproductive Health Services

HOURS: Full time Monday through Friday including some evenings

SALARY: $28.10

DUTIES: The Sexual and Reproductive Health Harm Reduction Specialist will work within a team and support clinical and overdose prevention services by using a harm reduction approach to:

  • Provide patient-centered sexual and reproductive health education and counseling on topics including contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, Hepatitis, PrEP, nPEP, gender affirming hormone therapy, pregnancy and pregnancy prevention, overdose education and narcan distribution
  • Provide clients with opioid overdose education and NARCAN training
  • Obtain and record clients’ medical, sexual and social history
  • Support medical providers in their provision of clinical services as needed
  • Provide short-term health navigation and client linkages to services including substance misuse treatment, mental health counseling, primary care, housing, crisis intervention, and other social and medical services as appropriate
  • Facilitate reproductive health risk assessment and harm reduction plans with clients
  • Support clients in accessing additional SRHS services including MAT, OEND, HCV treatment, PrEP, and nPEP.
  • Provide HIV PrEP/nPEP drug assistance and adherence, HCV treatment adherence, medication assisted treatment adherence, referrals to syringe services, referrals to mental health, referrals to primary care, referrals to housing, and referrals to other social service providers as indicated
  • Perform phlebotomy, routine lab testing, and preparing specimens for transport
  • Perform data entry into electronic health record system
  • Collect Prevention and Screening Program data and internal reporting.
  • Provide outreach activities and offsite services to promote sexual and reproductive health, HI programs, OEND and SSP programs emphasizing program/serviceintegration
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in the EMR and report system per protocols and guidelines
  • Act as a liaison within HI programs and with community providers and partner
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3 + years experience providing harm reduction counseling, overdose education and Narcan distribution, or sexual/reproductive health education; high school diploma; computer literacy essential. Must demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills in English and be sensitive to the needs of a culturally diverse population; prior experience working with low income and vulnerable populations; demonstrated ability to communicate unbiased health knowledge to clients (adolescents and adults of all genders) in an effective and culturally competent, non-judgmental manner.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with or knowledge of the populations served who are disproportionately impacted by HIV and/or substance use.
