Very likely, we’re preparing kids for the apocalypse (kidding… kinda… not really). All this packed into immersive camps and programs filled with epic story and adventure.

The Opportunity! Make common sense common again. Help kids build resilience, critical thinking, and competency for true independence. Lead and cultivate a community of outdoor educators dedicated to connecting kids to family, the more-than-human world (that’s nature), and many generations beyond our lifetime. Together we teach kids the power of invisibility and stealth by finding silence in the forest.

Your job! As a Regional Director is a full-time manager and educator. This role requires a laser focus and creative genius. Lead our camp team of 15+ Managing Coordinators & 150+ Guides, Serving 12000+ youth a year. Oversee our school-year mentoring programs and cultivate mentoring relationships with Trackers families and our community.

We DO NOT play pointless tag games, sing cheesy camp songs, or make paper plate art. We DO NOT seek out the easy or simplistic. We DO play towards greater contribution and service. We DO train kids to be a mix of Duncan Idaho (Dune), Miyamoto Musashi (The Book of Five Rings), and Ashitaka (Princess Mononoke). We DO give kids knives. We forage for wild foods. We blacksmith steel. We DO show them how to track bears, cougars, and mice. Be right there with us while we remember and remake the old-school ways to truly connect kids with their friends and with nature.

About Our Four Guilds: Trackers is like a game: the Game of Tracking. We divide what we teach into fantastic Four Guilds.

Rangers Guild A Ranger trains to be Ready. They hold sacred the arts of forest craft, honing skills of wilderness survival, tracking, and awareness. They Pay Attention, acting as the eyes and ears of the Village, living with the land as dappled light. Rangers move invisibly like the Wind. They Protect the village and Care for Family.

Wilders Guild A Wilder lives as a Caretaker. They tend to plants, trees, and odd mushrooms, finding ways to regenerate the land. They are Truly Helpful, guiding the needs of the people into harmony with all seasons of life. Wilders root in and Restore the Earth. They Care for the More Than Human World.

Mariners Guild A Mariner grows to be Gritty. They sail by salty trade and wisdom, fishing, and foraging, traveling by creek, river, and sea. They Flow with the Nature, charting a sunset course by the stars, currents, and tides. Mariners connect with and Respect the Waters. They Care for Many Generations.

Artisans Guild An Artisan connects the Team. They act as ringmasters of humor, heart, and wisdom, walking bare-of-foot and sleeping under the twilight sky. They share stories to Do It Better, recalling a timeless grief and praise from the stars above. Artisans keep to the hearth Fire. They Remember our Story and Care for the Silent & Invisible.

Responsibilities:

  • Connection You assemble, train, and manage a team of excellent Coordinators and Guides for all programs. You assist our Family Success team to help fill Break Camps and School Year programs. You are a badass leader, getting your admin work done while also engaging and role-modeling for staff on the ground. You support the Trackers Leadership in our objectives and mission.
  • Place You discover, connect with, and maintain essential Base Camp (onsite) and Adventure (transported) sites for programming. You develop teams that leave the land, locations, and gear that serve us better than you found it. You initiate program content that makes the place a core teacher.
  • Content You lead our regional teams, making our break camp programs go very well. You mentor and manage staff to educate and mentor youth in School Year programs. You develop programs based on our Four Guilds (see below): Rangers (Stealth, Archery, Wilderness Survival), Wilders (Animals, Farm, Wildcraft), Mariners (Fishing, Boats, Foraging) & Artisans (Fine Craft, Storytelling, Presentation). If you don’t yet possess these skills, you intend to develop them, training with intensive grit and passion!
  • Values You are a mentor. You remember what it’s like to be a kid. You reinforce a culture of can-do attitude and positive, solutions-based collaboration. You develop, implement, and maintain a budget for the region you lead. You follow and implement Trackers guidelines for safety and quality. You role-model and exemplify our values. Qualifications:

  • Safety You provide high-quality supervision to students, staff, and families. You possess an exceptional quality of situational awareness. You model and implement our guidelines for safety and quality.
  • Mentoring You are like if Jack Black ran camp. Your presentation engages every student, staff, and family towards deeper learning. You utilize FUNctional Awareness, by crafting uber-inspiring content. You understand Trackers content in a way that helps develop real skills in participants of all ages.
  • Survival Skills You understand resilience, demonstrating grit, toughness, and calm in challenging situations. You are tidy, timely, and accurate in your communication. You are highly adaptable, passionately improving your personal skill set and brainstorming how to do it better.
  • Leadership You foster teamwork that supports multiple teams with can-do and positive solutions. You are independent while also learning and aligning with Trackers guidelines of safety, quality, and content. You demonstrate clear passion for Trackers values, incorporating them into your staff management and program development.

Additional Qualifications:

  • 8+ year experience in leading educational programming (or equivalent)
  • 4+ years experience in leading and managing teams
  • Experience with outdoor programs or other types of programs similar to Trackers.
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or able to complete before position begins)
  • Anaphylaxis & Epinephrine Auto-Injector certified (or able to complete before position begins)
  • Food Handlers certified (or able to complete before position begins)
  • State fishing license (or able to complete before position begins)
  • Pass a pre-employment criminal background & references checks
  • CDL class B license (or able to obtain within 45 days of employment (see requirements below)
  • Completed Vaccinations for COVID-19 (verification required)

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoors, always moving, action packed, high complexity situations
  • Physical: must be able to lead staff and students on all-terrain hikes up to 15 miles in a day
  • Must have visual, perceptual, cognitive and judgment ability
  • Could be working with open flames, toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Could encounter extreme outdoor weather conditions in all seasons.
  • Noise level can go from very quiet (eg:forest trail) to very loud (eg: blacksmithing workshop).
  • Occasionally requires overnight camping in bushcraft shelters or a tent
  • Physical demands: 10% sitting, 30% standing, 20% walking, 35% lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling 5 - 80 lbs

Trackers CDL Requirements:

Already possess CDL:

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • 5 years clean driving record (no DUI, suspensions, multiple accidents, etc)
  • Current CDL A or B
  • Has Passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction if CDL B or higher
  • Current DOT Physical card, or ability to get one prior to starting
  • Must pass drug screen, will be in a random testing pool
  • Pass driving test with Trackers internal trainer(s)

If obtaining CDL through Trackers:

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • 5 years clean driving record (no DUI, suspensions, multiple accidents, etc)
  • Ability to pass DOT Physical
  • Must pass drug screen, will be in a random testing pool
  • Complete driver training via Trackers internal trainer(s)
