DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

LAHC is hiring a full-time, tenure-track Multimedia Instructor commencing Fall 2023. We are looking for candidates who have the desire and ability to create a welcoming classroom culture that positively engages and impacts our diverse student population.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree AND two years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment; OR
  • Associate’s degree AND six years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
  • A demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Eligibility Requirement: COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach the standard complement of Multimedia courses at the community college level (typically a 5-course load per semester).
  • Teach a schedule that can include nights, evenings, weekends, off campus sites, and online classes based on student demand and needs.
  • Maintain the minimum required student consultation hours as specified in the Faculty Union contract.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty from other departments and divisions.
  • Participate in program review and annual updates to program review.
  • Participate in curricular revision and development.
  • Conduct learning outcomes assessment, based on a variety of assignments and/or other assessment tools of differing formats.
  • Participate with faculty to develop and assess student learning outcomes and use the results to improve teaching and learning.
  • Participate in the development of resources, materials and strategies, including the use of multimedia technology to teach students in a multicultural environment.
  • Serve as a representative at the discipline, division, and campus levels, including serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance and accreditation.
  • Fulfill professional development activities according to institutional and contractual guidelines.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Experience/background in Multimedia (should be prepared to teach a range of technical and theory courses within the Media Arts discipline. These courses may include: production, producing, cinematography, editing, production sound recording, sound editing and mixing, motion graphics, visual effects, and color grading/correction).
  • Experience working on professional film/media productions in development, distribution, and marketing.
  • Experience teaching courses at the community college or university level in development, scheduling, budgeting, distribution, and marketing for the entertainment industry.
  • Experience working on professional film/media productions in the areas of production, camera, lighting, DIT, and sound recording.
  • Experience teaching courses at the community college or university level in production, camera, lighting, DIT, and sound recording for the entertainment industry.
  • Experience working on professional film/media productions in post-production, editing, sound mixing, visual effects, and finishing.
  • Experience teaching courses at the community college or university level in post-production, editing, sound mixing, visual effects, and finishing for the entertainment industry.
  • Experience working on professional film/media productions in motion capture, 3D animation, and virtual reality.
  • Experience teaching courses at the community college or university level in motion capture, 3D animation, and virtual reality for the entertainment industry.
  • Canvas certification and two years of experience teaching online courses at the community college or university level in the topics listed above.
  • Skills in Adobe Creative suites, Maya, Z-Brush, Toon Boom.
  • Production/work experience: Animation (Character Modeling, Story Boarding), Game Design, eSports, Motion Graphics.
  • An excellent academic record that indicates a strong background in Multimedia and related fields.
  • Experience/background in online teaching modalities.
  • Experience in working with student learning outcomes.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

The selected candidate will be rated into the salary schedule after hiring based upon experience and professional preparation. First year probationary faculty members are rated into a salary range of $66,220 to $103,100 for the 10-month academic year. The doctoral differential is $418.00 per month. An exceptional benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents.
