Bio-Med Science Academy is an innovative, progressive, year-round public STEM high school that prepares students to succeed in the global economy. The Academy opened in Rootstown, Ohio in August 2012 and received formal STEM designation in April 2013. As a member of the Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN), the Academy is a recognized STEM school along with other STEM schools across the state and the country. Located on the campus of Northeast Ohio Medical University, the Academy is the only STEM school in the nation housed in an academic health center campus and one of few to be located in a rural area. This unique positioning gives rural Ohio students and their teachers' direct access to sophisticated research laboratories, scientists, professors, and medical professionals—making for a truly extraordinary learning experience. The Academy strives to attract highly qualified educators with a passion and drive to rethink education to propel students into the global community with strong roots in 21st century skills.

We are currently seeking a Teacher Support Specialist/Assistant to accommodate the special needs of students with physical and mental disabilities, providing supplemental services as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma Required, Complete two years of higher education study OR an Associate’s degree.
Minimum of one year of successful experience involving contact with students with special needs in a school setting. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. This position is suitable for someone who is dependable and task oriented, with excellent organizational and observational skills.
Must be able to interact with all constituents in a competent and professional manner. Good written and oral communication skills as well as technical dexterity.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Assist the special education teacher in providing students with equal access to school adopted core curriculum in various settings. Additionally assists with the preparation of, and works with, specialized instructional materials. Provides supervision to special education students during non-instructional periods including field trips. Assists general education teachers in the classroom supporting at-risk students. Administers first aid and medical assistance, providing appropriate personal care support when necessary. Occasional light clerical duties as requested – other duties as assigned

Salary:
Commensurate with experience and in accordance with specified salary schedule

Chief Operating Officer (Building Principal)
