Here’s your chance to work as a food service professional without the late nights and heavy lifting. You can help transform lives and make a difference with your food service skills. Join the Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Cook Coordinator where you will provide direction to incarcerated individuals in the preparation, presentation, and serving of daily meals. You’ll also make sure nutrition and health code standards are met.

This position has direct contact with incarcerated individuals working alongside them in an industrial kitchen setting.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements

  • Two years of food service experience in fast food, restaurant, or catering with high volume food production or short order cooking.
  • Two years of experience as a baker in a commercial bakery, large restaurant, cafeteria, school, hospital, or equivalent experience in large volume baking.
  • One year of experience as a cook in a large restaurant, cafeteria, school, hospital, or equivalent experience in large volume cooking and food preparation.
  • Six months of experience as a cook performing large volume cooking and food preparation in a correctional or secured environment.
  • Completion of a nine (9) month or longer full-time vocational/technical school program in commercial cooking or commercial food preparation.

Required Training:

Applicants who do not currently possess ServSafe Food Manager Certification (or equivalent) must obtain certification through in-house training as a requirement to successfully pass probation in the position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a correctional or secured environment.
  • Experience directing the work of others sufficient to direct incarcerated workers.
  • Experience directing the work of others in a large food service setting.
  • Two or more years of experience as a cook in a large restaurant, cafeteria, school, hospital, or equivalent experience in large volume cooking and food preparation.
  • Knowledge of the safety and security considerations of food service delivery within a correctional environment.

Pay: $19.13 - $26.11 per hour
