JOB TITLE: Floating Clinical Assistant

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

Maintaining instruments and equipment, and overseeing sterilization and waste management activities.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • Sterilization of instruments
  • Help assist with patient load (clean rooms, set up for the next patient, seat the next

patient for the assistants and doctors so treatment can be started)

  • Be knowledgeable with the hygiene routine to help and assist when necessary
  • Help take, develop, and mount x-rays
  • Duplicate x-rays
  • Keep the sterile area stocked with necessary supplies
  • Wash and dry laundry (lab coats and towels) when necessary
  • Empty garbage at the end of the A.M. and P.M. shifts (operatories, darkroom, patient and employee bathrooms, and lab)
  • Responsible for putting away stock and UPS deliveries.

Instruments and equipment

  • Knowledge of the open and close procedures for the sterile area
  • Procedure tray set up
  • Discard all disposable items for each visit
  • Assemble soiled instruments and place in sterilization area
  • Pre-soak soiled instruments in a disinfectant
  • Process instruments in ultrasonic
  • Wipe and spray treatment trays
  • Sort and package instruments for sterilization
  • Load, activate, and vent the sterilization unit according to the manufacturer’s directions
  • Store instruments in the appropriate places
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and who to call when necessary

Sterilization area

  • Mix required cleaning solutions and keep them fresh
  • Clean ultrasonic units and autoclaves
  • Use a spore test once a month for the sterilizer
  • Take disinfected instruments out of the cold sterile at the start of every a.m.
  • Tracking of the CDR sensor and report any problems to your supervisor
  • Keep the sterilization area clean and neat at all times
  • Help keep inventory of office supplies

Waste management

  • Discard needles in puncture-resistant, leak-proof, labeled containers
  • Decontaminate regulated waste and place in leak-proof, puncture-resistant containers
  • Apply warning labels to regulated waste
  • Knowledge of the Amalgam waste law

Office Participation

  • Lead by example. Follow policy and procedures noted in the Progressive Dental handbook and encourage other staff to do the same.
  • Follow, adhere to and encourage other staff to adhere to Progressive Dental’s code of conduct, posted in the office.
  • Participate in creating and encourage other staff to maintain a safe, non-hostile working environment for fellow employees and Doctors (no gossiping or negativity toward others).
  • Praise others when you “catch them doing something good”.
  • Follow and believe in Progressive Dental’s mission statement and encourage other staff to do the same.
  • Train, coach, and educate new personnel (including interns/externs)
  • Responsible for making patient walkways inside and outside the office are safe and clear
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the dentist or your supervisor

PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years’ office experience
  • Legible handwriting for notations, memos, and messages
  • Attend continuing education courses/seminars as directed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
