Position Summary

Drake State is looking for a Program Coordinator to coordinate and administer the FlexFactor and Flex2Future programs in local middle and high schools. FlexFactor is a project-based student lead learning activity designed to bring career opportunity awareness and an educational pathway to students grades K-12. This program will blend the worlds of Advanced Manufacturing and entrepreneurship by identifying current industry problems, visualize and develop a high tech solution, and build a business model around it. Students will pitch their ideas “Shark Tank” style. Flex2Future is a structured internship program.

Appropriate placement on the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees Local Salary "L" Schedule - Part-Time, Hourly Wage is $20.00 per hour

Work Hours:
Maximum of (19) hours per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The FlexFactor Program Coordinator’s role is both administrative and student-focused. Time would be divided between administrative activities at Drake State and conducting offsite activities with students and program partners. The FlexFactor Program Coordinator shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J. F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook.
  • Travel to local area middle and high schools and professional development training
  • Schedule and deconflict each program iteration and internship cycle
  • Schedule and coordinate FlexFactor classes in area middle and high schools
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with Drake State faculty and staff to develop iteration schedules and new industry partners
  • Maintain open communication with faculty and become familiar with new industry trends or changes that could affect enrollment for new or current students
  • Plan and coordinate classroom visits so participants can meet Drake State instructors and tour the campus
  • Plan and perform the necessary set up associated with program events
  • Use technology to effectively produce word processing documents, record-keeping information, student presentations, student applications, email, and information and data management
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure all elements are in place for the successful execution of field trips, meetings, and events
  • Build and maintain positive and professional relationships and coordinate with external industry partners for off-site visits and participation as a panelist on the FlexFactor Final Pitch “Shark Tank” presentations for each iteration
  • Build and maintain positive and professional relationships with middle and high school administrators, community organizations, and agencies
  • Maintain administrative files for FlexFactor program and participant applications
  • Deliver in-class and/or online FlexFactor program information and presentations for K-12 students
  • Assist participants in understanding career pathways, transitions, and college opportunities available to them through internships, mentoring, and employment readiness skills
  • Assist participants with enrollment paperwork for internships and college
  • Assist in creating content for social media, news articles, etc.
  • Provide student teams with assistance and feedback as they conceptualize their products and develop their business model and final pitches
  • Inform participants of the programs offered at Drake State with the goal to recruit them for careers within the local area and North Alabama, while also providing activities and presentations to show how Drake State can offer those career pathways through education provided at Drake State
  • Remain knowledgeable of financial aid opportunities for new and current students
  • Communicate with the ACCS FlexFactor Program Coordinator and provide required reports as needed
  • Maintain knowledge and abide by College policies and procedures regarding academic support, student activities, and enrollment
  • Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
  • Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Student Success Specialist, Dean of Students, and/or the President

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
This role requires a highly detail-oriented individual who has the ability to comfortably and professionally engage with everyone from high school students to government representatives and industry leaders.
  • Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Business, Marketing, Communications, Education, or a related field
  • Excellent public speaking/presenting skills including experience conducting presentations, training, and workshops, etc.
  • Experience in higher education or event planning
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and knowledge of FERPA
  • Ability to plan, deconflict, and iterate through multiple program iterations simultaneously
  • Ability to work well with youth
  • Ability to convey program structure and goals to teachers, administrators, industry representatives, and any other stakeholders
  • Ability to assist students in understanding the major entrepreneurship, business, technology, and education-related components of the program
  • Comfortability in new situations and ability to quickly problem solve when issues arise
  • Ability to work independently and work well on a team
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and other employees
  • Knowledge of the Alabama Community College System and Drake State Community and Technical College programs and curriculum
