FINANCIAL COORDINATOR, Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL), to administer pre- and/or post-award financial activities related to CTL’s daily operations, resolve moderately-complex issues, and advises on matters pertaining to financial activities. Responsibilities include providing 'cradle-to-grave' contract/grant and financial management for faculty and principal investigators (PIs); reviewing solicitations, proposal and budget development, and proposal submission to appropriate central MIT offices; monitoring financial compliance, reviewing forecasts, preparing detailed overviews, arranging subcontracts, preparing financial reports, handling account close-outs, and monitoring support systems related to research activities; preparing, routing, and submitting proposals; monitoring the financial performance of grants/contracts to ensure compliance; preparing reports, financial analysis, forecasting, and spreadsheets; handling payroll distribution and certification, cost sharing, and other award terms and conditions; reviewing and controlling financial activities for research and faculty fund accounts; reviewing, processing, and tracking requisitions; approving purchases, reviewing expenditures, and processing financial transactions; processing, approving, and tracking travel reports; performing export control screenings to maintain regulatory compliance; reviewing, processing, tracking payments, and reconciling bills, vendor invoices, requisitions, POs, and requests for payment; serving as financial transaction contact point and training resource; and performing a variety of other duties.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; two years’ accounting/finance experience; excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; initiative; ability to implement and/or improve established financial processes; good judgment with confidential matters; strong computer skills; and knowledge of SAP. PREFERRED: skill with relational databases, BrioQuery, QuickBooks, and/or Cognos; accounting/finance experience in an academic/research environment (preferably MIT); interest in interacting with and assisting students/faculty/administrators/visitors with culturally and professionally diverse backgrounds; and ability to collaborate as part of a team and work with frequent interruptions.
