Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other federal agencies, all over the world.

The Accounting Manager oversees functions and staff within the Finance department’s accounting operations. This position will manage various finance and accounting functions for Planate US operations including but not limited to, accounts payable and invoice processing, financial analysis, forecast and reporting, payroll, taxation, and other regulatory reporting compliance, accounts reconciliation, and month/year-end closing processes. S/he will oversee the accounting and financial activities and deliverables of the finance team, mainly based outside the USA, and ensure that everything is well coordinated and reports are provided to the management and stakeholder.

This is a mid-level position and our salary range for this position is based on the market data, $100-130k/annum (offer depends on the experience)

Key responsibilities:

  • Works closely with other members of the Finance team to ensure the timely and accurate capturing of all financial activity of the organization, including revenue and expense capture and recognition, monthly close process, allocations, etc
  • Works closely with peers across the organization to strengthen financial operations. Able to resolve issues raised by stakeholders and attend meetings and training to enhance knowledge to be passed down to reporting finance specialist
  • Responsible for the oversight of all daily/weekly/monthly/ annual accounting tasks assigned to their team by established deadlines in order to ensure a timely and accurate monthly close of books Compile and review monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory and financial reports such as audited financial statements
  • Oversees/supervises a team of staff accountants who perform different accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and DCAA
  • Oversees Staff Accountants’ timely payment and proper expense tracking of all organizational expenses, processing of corporate credit card payments and expense reimbursements,
  • Ensures proper recognition of revenue in accordance with accounting, GAAP, and federal revenue recognition rules.
  • Ensures compliance with Planate’s financial policies and procedures, including travel and expense policy, corporate credit card policy, and other related policies. Establish other policies, if needed
  • Reviews reconciliations for various asset, liability, revenue, and expense accounts
  • Works with department leadership to continuously review processes and recommends areas for improvement and automation.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service by providing timely and accurate information to internal and external stakeholders as needed and in a polite/professional manner
  • Provides information and training to accounting staff and internal clients (teams) regarding various accounting processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops/maintains proper documentation for all financial transactions of the organization
  • Supports/oversees the completion and success of annual financial audits including DCAA, SOX, and ISO audits
  • Supports/oversees the preparation and submission of the annual IRS Form W2 and 1099
  • Trains and supervises staff accountants in their performance of accounting tasks. Develops, and supervises subordinates and interns, if any. Establish and support department and individual goals, and prepare performance evaluations. Sustain employee satisfaction through learning, development, and engagement activities of the Finance
  • Undertakes other ah-hoc responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Minimum of five years accounting or finance experience gained from any federal government, contractor, or government contractor auditing or consulting firm, essential
  • Minimum of seven years of accounting or finance experience with proven knowledge of all basic accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, A/R, A/P, taxation, payroll, etc.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills
  • CPA preferred
  • Strong background in GAAP, SOX, IFRS is required.
  • 5 years in people management and supervisory experience
  • Solid experience in accounts payable, invoicing, financial reporting, and month-end close process.
  • Working experience in an engineering company preferred.
  • Effective English communication both oral and written.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications (e.g. Excel and PowerPoint) preferably with Power Query, Power BI, Power Automate, Outlook, Teams)
  • Experience using medium-to-large business accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. QuickBooks, Unanet,etc.)
  • Attention to fine detail and ability to work in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively as a member of a multidisciplinary and high-performance team
  • Customer service attitude and orientation toward serving internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in culturally diverse environment.
