Job Summary

Apprentice level position in our Field Metering Services (FMS) department. Position will be located at the following shops: Ashtabula (7001 Center Rd, Ashtabula, OH 44004).


We are seeking individuals with strong customer service skills and a desire to learn and perform advanced tasks. In this role, you will perform a variety of inspections on meters and metering equipment, which may include reading meters and inspecting interior/exterior service lines and meters for leaks and/or outside atmospheric corrosion inspections. In addition, you will operate associated data entry devices and report inspection results required by the work performed.


Typical Duties

Learns to and performs field service-related work activities (e.g., installation and repair of electronic monitoring and reading equipment on residential and small commercial accounts [4 dial indexes], curb box verification work and turning gas off while performing this order type). Learns to and performs atmospheric corrosion surveys to identify and report atmospheric corrosion. Learns to and performs DOT inspections. Learns to and performs Meter Reading functions. May accompany FMS personnel as they perform their normally assigned duties in the field. May perform other duties such as miscellaneous surveys. Operates and maintains company vehicle and vehicle inventory in a neat and orderly manner. Operates associated data entry devices as required. Prepares documents and reports as required by the work assigned. Properly cares for and handles all tools and work equipment used in assigned job duties. Communicates professionally with customers to promote customer satisfaction. Shifts may be assigned on a rotating basis.


Working hours will range from 7:30 AM and 12:00 AM, Monday through Sunday.


90% Outside work, majority of the day spent walking and/or driving rural and city routes to complete meter inspections.


Rate of pay will start at $22.84 per hour.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The successful candidates should have the following: (please make sure your resume reflects how you meet the following 'requirements' in order to be considered)


Minimum Requirements A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or more rounds to one full year of qualifications):

  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience
  • Must have a valid vehicle operator's license
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must successfully pass a physical test.
  • Good customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel (Northeast Ohio Dominion Energy Ohio territory)
  • Able to work overtime and all shifts as required
  • Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and standing for prolonged periods of time

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude

Other Working Conditions
