The Family Programming Manager is responsible for fostering vibrant and creative classrooms where children can enjoy themselves in a safe and enriching environment. He/she/they will work closely with the Program Director and will be supported by the Family Programming Team.

The position requires a self-motivated person who will be responsible for coordinating operational and programmatic elements within both Discovery Club After School and the broader Family Engagement & Jewish Life Department. Discovery Club is an active and engaging after-school program for children in grades K-5, located at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton, filled with enrichment programming, Jewish celebrations and values, learning and fun! Family Programming is a growing and vibrant team and this role offers many opportunities to have a significant impact across the JCC community. This is a full time position and requires a combination of weekday, and occasional evening and weekend work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with the Program Director:

  • Foster and lead vibrant and creative classrooms where children can enjoy themselves in a safe and enriching environment
  • Respond to the needs of each child and establish consistent relationships with students and their families/caregivers
  • Design, organize, implement, and supervise curricula and after school activities, working closely with the Jewish Experiential Educator to incorporate Jewish values and content into curriculum
  • Manage staffing logistics and communication
  • Ensure a friendly, safe and supportive atmosphere by assisting children with behavior management
  • Liaise sensitively with parents on matters concerning their children while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ensure that the health and safety needs of the children are met and all health and safety issues are addressed in accordance with EEC regulations
  • Participate in and assist in planning professional development opportunities
  • Prepare and keep inventory of materials to support programming
  • Support JCC Greater Boston community's vision, mission and values

Additional Responsibilities as part of the Family Programming Team

  • Assist with, develop and implement new and existing programming for children and families
  • Collaborate across departments on projects that support and further the mission of engaging and meeting the needs of children and families

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to relate to and engage well with children ages 5 to 10
  • Experience with leading children/youth activities
  • Knowledge of youth/children programs
  • Ability to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment and organize time and workload effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, children and parents
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Demonstrated management experience
  • Experience developing and implementing engaging activities or curricula
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to fulfill the state requirement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to work well in a busy, dynamic and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children's back packs etc.)
  • Able to sit and kneel, getting down at eye level with children regularly

Salary:

$45,000 - $55,000
