This position will require travel between both office sites in The Dalles, Hood River & Sherman County.

This Position

The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs skilled and unskilled work in preventative maintenance and routine repair at all MCCFL sites, as assigned. This position may perform a variety of routine tasks associated with basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC troubleshooting and repairs, as well as general labor such as setting up and moving office furniture and cabinets, etc. The Maintenance Technician proactively manages MCCFL resources to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and clients.

Essential Responsibilities of the Classification: The following list represents the essential responsibilities of the position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assess maintenance issues in MCCFL physical plants and systems; make repairs within scope of position; refer to supervisor more complex work requiring professional mitigation. Coordinate with professional contractors, as directed. Provide backup support to vehicle maintenance contractors.
  • Perform routine maintenance on MCCFL systems and facilities. Troubleshoot plumbing and electrical issues; make simple repairs and replacements. Perform basic carpentry and maintenance tasks such as drywall/plaster repair, painting, ceiling tile replacement, flooring repair; perform regular roof maintenance including cleaning debris from roofs and skylights, cleaning and maintaining gutters (including installation of heat tape). Maintain an adequate inventory of janitorial and repair supplies, ice melt, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance on MCCFL HVAC systems. Clean and replace filters; reset tripped units; replace batteries in thermostats; reset thermostats.
  • Maintain grounds at all MCCFL-owned sites. Test, repair and maintain irrigation sprinkler systems. Manage watering schedule; ensure that areas not served by irrigation systems receive adequate water. Trim hedges and shrubs; remove weeds; maintain landscaping beds; rake and sweep.
  • Maintain parking lots and sidewalks at all MCCFL-owned sites. Remove snow and manage ice on sidewalks; sweep and remove trash from parking lots; restripe parking spaces. Install and clean outdoor cigarette receptacles at all locations; ensure that containers are safe and in good repair.
  • May perform a variety of indoor and outdoor cleaning activities.
  • Move and manage archived boxes of records within Agency storage areas. Ensure that boxes are appropriately marked with destruction dates; move materials to shredding bins in a timely manner.
  • Provide support to Agency recycling program. Remove and recycle surplus technology; pickup and retrieve recycling bins.
  • Provide support and assistance in managing office set-ups including assembling, moving, and removing office furniture and file cabinets. Repair file cabinets as needed; remove and replace file locks. Set up and break down meeting rooms as directed.
  • Respond to emergency situations that threaten damage to Agency assets due to water, wind, flood, fire or other threats.
  • Must have regular and predictable attendance. Must employ safe work practices in the execution of the work.

Job Specifications : Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position’s essential responsibilities is qualifying. This might typically include:

· Three (3) years of responsible experience performing general building maintenance duties that include verifiable work in carpentry, basic electrical and plumbing repair, HVAC, and roof maintenance.

· Experience working in the building trades; license is desirable.

· Must pass all criminal history check requirements as required by ORS 181.536-181.537 and in accordance with OAR 407-007-0200 to 407-007-0370.

Physical Demands:

· This position requires the ability to perform vigorous physical labor, sometimes for extended periods. It requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently; 50 pounds infrequently, and up to 75 pounds rarely. The work requires the ability to climb ladders and stairs, walk on even and uneven surfaces and work at heights.

· In performing the work, incumbents will be required to stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, reach within a wide range of motion, grip and use hands. Hearing, vision and speech within normal limits (corrected or uncorrected) is required.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor conditions, often requiring the use of safety precautions. While performing the duties of this job, incumbents are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. Incumbents are frequently exposed to high, precarious places, and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Incumbents are occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position will be required to drive Agency vehicles to travel between MCCFL locations. As such, the incumbent must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
