Job Duties:

The successful candidate for the Sports Event Services Manager (Event Coordinator) will plan, direct, supervise and implement event services strategies for large scale participatory sporting events ranging from 50-30,000 participants while delivering the highest quality customer service and client experience. Job duties will include the following:

  • Responsible for all management duties associated with event production including timeline development, operations plan development, event execution, utilization of in-house CRM, post event evaluations, etc.
  • Acts as liaison between Virginia Beach Sports Marketing and the client’s expectations.
  • Experience with event budget development, fiscal management, procurement of event-related services and supplies as well as detailed understanding of floor plan/event site development and venue relationship development.
  • Organize and prioritize meeting deadlines.
  • As a sales organization, must have a general understanding of the sales process.
  • Participate in client development functions such as event operation meetings, site visits and familiarization tours.
  • Generate accurate, detailed reports, event calendars and other documentation.
  • Assist with facilitation of the Sports Marketing Grant Program including building awareness to local stakeholders, program implementation and associated event logistics.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure overall unit goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Occasionally overnight travel for the purposes of event development, industry education and other duties as assigned.
  • Work nights, weekends and/or holidays in excess of normally scheduled hours to meet operational needs.

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school or GED plus six years' experience in fields such as event supervisor, hotel event coordinator, association meeting planner, business or public administration, public relations, hotel/restaurant management, or supervision in a public assembly facility utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver's license eligibility requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.

  • Minimum of 2 years of large-scale event production experience (sporting events, festivals, etc.)
  • Exp working within a municipal government setting
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated exp showing successful event production and client retention rate
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Creativity and development to enhance customer experience
  • Ability to pivot during high volume events
  • Proficiency with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software
  • Experience developing an event plan
