The Construction Services group provides cost estimating, value engineering, scheduling, and consulting services for new construction and renovation projects ranging from $1 million to $5 billion in construction costs. Clients include federal agencies, architects, engineers, and private corporations. Projects include specialized facilities, administrative buildings, hospitals, airports, commercial buildings, water/wastewater plants, site development, parking structures, and infrastructure.

Michael Baker International is seeking an energetic and experienced Estimator (Construction Associate 1) to join our Moon Township, PA team. The ideal candidate will have a background in providing cost estimating and cost analysis services to a variety of clients. The responsibilities of this position may include:

  • Perform complete quantity takeoffs and apply corresponding budget pricing based on historical data to develop cost models and estimates
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings and walkthroughs, etc. to determine the scope of work and required contents of the budget and estimate
  • Keep current on changes and trends in methods of construction, codes and materials, construction costs, wage rates, and working rules; research, review and suggest new materials and methods apply to projects as required
  • Gather, calculate, and compile data for use in conceptual/bid proposal estimates
  • Maintain accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors through direct contact and written materials, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure complete and accurate preparation of proposals, budgets, and presentations to clients
  • Interface with the Owner, A/E, subcontractors, and other team members to build lasting relationships and provide superior customer service

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of experience in the A/E or construction industry
  • Prefer Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related fields
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cost-estimating principles and procedures, construction methods, and related industry experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in understanding and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques, conceptual budgeting, cost control, competitive lump sum bidding, planning, scheduling, and material pricing
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of commonly used business practices as they relate to Engineering and Construction to develop cost
  • Ability to create and develop technical work products (cost estimates and related products); ability to develop and edit technical reports
  • Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc. is essential
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Preferred proficiency in MII (MCACES), Timberline, PlanSwift, RS Means, or other cost-estimating systems
  • Availability to work non-standard hours, including some nights and weekends on occasion
  • A plus if you have one or more of the following certificates: CCT (certified cost technician), CCP (certified cost professional), CEP (certified estimating professional), CPE (certified professional estimator) or PCEA (professional cost estimator/analyst)

COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $57,569 to $86,364. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
