The ER Tech effectively maintains the Standards of Practice and Care using direct and indirect care, under the supervision of a Registered or Licensed Practical Nurse. The ER Tech promotes collaboration with physicians and other disciplines. Major Duties:

Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Assists in the orientation and training of new and tenured personnel, reassigned extenders, students, and serves as a preceptor when requested. Accepts delegated responsibilities on an assigned shift as delegated by the Charge Nurse. Performs vital signs, assists patients with ambulation, feeding and toileting under the supervision of the RN. Once competent, assists MD/RN with procedures. Maintains patient safety and privacy at all times. Notifies appropriate RN of any patient changes. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet the needs of the department within established timeframe while experiencing frequent interruptions. Once competent, assists MD/RN with procedures. Performs CPR as needed under the direction of the RN or ED physician. Transports patients to ancillary departments and units as needed. Maintains and cleans supplies and equipment for the ED including patient rooms, wheelchairs, stretchers, and any other equipment as directed by the Charge Nurse or RN. Performs casting/splinting as directed by the ED physician. Provides patients and family with information as appropriate. Completes daily task assignments including stocking of supplies and linens on the unit. Responds to internal and external disasters as directed. Floats to assigned units(s)/subdepartment within unit as needed. Participates in staff meetings, educational programs, committees, QI activities and mandatory inservices. Completes unit specific skills checklist and competencies prior to end of 90 day evaluation. Accurately and efficiently performs EKGs in the unit and reports printout to the ED physician. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Preferred: 1 year experience in clinical setting. High school diploma or equivalent. Required: Proficiency in skills as indicated on skills checklist prior to end of 90 day probationary period.

Licensure/Certification: Required: Louisiana Nursing Assistant Certification, Basic Emergency Medical Technician Certification or minimum of 2 semesters completed in accredited school of nursing. Louisiana Nursing Assistant Certification or Basic Emergency Medical Technician Certification.
