The Pony Express Veterinary Hospital located in Xenia, OH is looking for positive, self-motivated veterinary assistants to assist our equine sports medicine department. If you’re interested in truly equine sports medicine, this is the place for you! This position would not start until August.

Responsibilities:

• Ability to safely and effectively manage horses of different disciplines.
• Ability to carry up to 50 pounds for a short distance and lead horses at a fast-paced jog.
• Setting up equipment, including x-ray and ultrasound or fluoroscope.
• Knowledge of X-ray views, (Basic 4: AP/PA, Lateral, Oblique: APLMO, APMLO) and what equipment is needed for each type of x-ray.
• Assisting Veterinarian in preparing horse for joint injections, x-rays, blocking, lameness exam, etc.
• Familiar with Equine anatomy, including joints and each injection site.
• Keeping the trucks clean and stocked.
• Maintaining a clean environment in all equine treatment areas to include outdoor areas.
• Basic knowledge of medications and dosage.
• Assisting with blood, urine and tissue samples for testing, perform in-house lab tests.
• Clerical and administrative work, such as but not limited to; answering phones, scheduling appointments, and processing payments.
• Assisting with Coggins and Health papers.
• Assisting with inventory management.Compensation is dependent on experience and starts at $15/hour.
