POSITION SUMMARY:

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist assists with safety and environmental activities as they relate to compliance with Federal and State regulations and company policies.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with conducting safety training with employees on a variety of health and safety topics, and tracks training needs
  • Conducts periodic safety and environmental inspections of all workplace facilities, documents findings, and initiates corrective actions
  • Assists in the enforcement of company safety policies and environmental compliance
  • Assists with the investigation of work-related injuries
  • Is a health and safety resource for co-workers, including dissemination of information from EH&S
  • Participates on the Safety Committee and facilitates safety meetings, as necessary, including the championing of safety action items
  • Assists with review and assessment of the company’s safety and environmental programs
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices, and procedures and reports all unsafe activities
  • Assists in the development of training records and documenting training needs and training deficiencies related to Environmental, Health and Safety.
  • Develops and disseminates manuals and documentation around health and safety.
  • Member of the Spill Response Team and 1st Aid Responder.
  • Collects, delivers, prepares, and transfers many types of chemicals and other sensitive/hazardous materials.
  • Monitors EH&S supplies and maintains adequate levels of required supplies
  • Assists in recycle program
  • Additional duties as requested by management.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with environmental health and safety experience
  • Associates Degree and 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment with environmental health and safety experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or EHS.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of ISO 14001:2015, MIOSHA regulations.
  • Demonstrated skill in auditing for compliance MIOSHA, ISO 14001:2015, DEQ regulations.
  • General knowledge of inspection skills and Federal, State and Local requirements.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer, keyboard, and various software programs.
  • Proficiency with the use of MS Word, and /or Excel
  • Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be required to stand. The employee could frequently be required to walk; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee could be required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee could occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job could include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
