Overview
The R&D Demonstration Group is seeking an Enrichment Technology Technician who will focus on supporting research associated with the conceptualization, development, and deployment of enrichment technologies and systems. This position resides in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) which serves the nation in two critical areas: advancing enrichment technologies and exploring stable isotope production and applications. The division leverages an elite staff of scientists, engineers, technical professionals, and technicians with the world-leading capabilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to deliver groundbreaking advancements with a variety of applications, from national security to lifesaving
medical treatments. As part of the R&D Demonstration team, you will work towards advancing the most costeffective enrichment technology in support of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Domestic Uranium Enrichment (DUE) program – focused on restoring the nation’s enrichment capabilities.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute enrichment experiments in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Function as the Lead Operator over test bed experiments
  • Monitor and perform trending analysis of experiment parameters
  • Utilize HMI and field controls to manipulate test bed support systems to include but not limited to, process gas,
  • vacuum, cryogenic, tempered water, thermal, mechanical, and electrical distribution
  • Respond to system or unit abnormalities, diagnosing the cause, and recommending or taking corrective action
  • Utilize precision mechanical test and inspection equipment to verify component/system performance and integrity
  • Participate with installation, troubleshooting, replacement, decommissioning of systems and components
  • Maintain experiment data and associated documentation records related to experiment life cycle
  • Support the development and review of procedures, instructions, reports, presentations, and qualifications
  • Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of laboratory values, ethics, and vision


Required Qualifications:

  • A.S. or A.A.S. degree in chemical, mechanical, nuclear, industrial engineering technology, and minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with hazardous reactive gas systems, cryogenic systems/components, vacuum systems/components, HMI/PLC controlled systems/components, instrumentation, and associated mechanical and inspection equipment (e.g., leak detectors, RGA's etc.)
  • Proven communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiar with use of office automation tools (such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases)
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment and adapt to changing conditions
  • Shift work, flexible hours and overtime are required


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience related to programs or research involving isotope enrichment technologies
  • Active DOE Q clearance
  • Experience with DOE O 422.1, Conduct of Operations
  • Experience with DOE safety, security, and regulatory requirements
  • NQA-1 or ISO-9000 Quality experience


Clearance Required:

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.


Physical Requirements:

Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after
offer.
