NCDOT is looking for a highly motivated individual looking for a position with the potential of career advancement. This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement.

This position provides technical work supporting higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.

You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following


  • Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
  • Experience in customer service and interacting with the general public
Management prefers applicants with the following:
  • Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and /or construction surveying
  • Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
  • Knowledge of survey crew techniques, duties, and responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Associate s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
