Pacific Biosciences is seeking a talented Engineering Technician to assemble, align, test, and calibrate complex opto-mechanical DNA sequencing systems.
The Engineering Technician is responsible for the build and test of complex third generation DNA sequencing instruments and subsystems. The primary focus of the technician is completing each instrument or subsystem build on-time by following the released processes and workflows. In addition to following the released processes, the technician must be able to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner. Engineering technicians should be able to learn and understand current processes in order to provide feedback to engineering for improvements. The same goes for instrument hardware, software, and subsystems, learning the functions well enough to provide design improvement ideas, DFM feedback, and fix and file bugs.

Position Requirements:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 4 - 6 years of related experience.
  • AS Degree in Engineering Technology with 3+ years of experience in system integration and test of opto-mechanical systems, preferred; or BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Optical, Industrial Engineering, or related field, preferred.
  • Experience operating in a Unix environment
  • Python or similar software familiarity (1st / 2nd year college level).
  • System level troubleshooting complex instruments across several disciplines (Optics, mechanical, electrical)
  • Troubleshoot software programs running on a Unix environment by reading messages in logs, both system level logs and logs for the individual programs.
  • Understand interactions between programs and hardware in order to pinpoint failure points.
  • Must possess the ability to read, understand, and follow written procedures, build of materials, and mechanical drawings.
  • Must possess the ability to operate optical and electronic measurement equipment (e.g. power meters, beam profilers, oscilloscopes, DVM’s).
  • Must possess the ability to manage schedules independently and complete tasks on-time.
  • Willingness to work overtime is a plus.
  • Adherence to documented processes, good written communication, and attention to detail are qualities we look for in a good technician.
  • Experience working in an ISO9001 environment is a plus.
  • Experience operating in a Unix environment
  • Familiarity with Jira
  • Familiarity with MES software (Camstar)
  • Familiarity with Agile or other PLM enterprise software
  • Python or similar software familiarity (1st / 2nd year college level).
  • Ability to lift 40lbs.

Salary Range:
$72,300.00 - $97,800.00
