Energy Infrastructures and Communities Specialist Job at University of Oklahoma
The Institute for Resilient Environmental and Energy Systems is recruiting an Energy Infrastructures and Communities Specialist to support use inspired research and demonstration of technologies that address solutions to grand challenges at the intersection of societyenergyenvironment. The successful candidate will lead aspects of community benefits planning and reporting for projects with a focus on, inclusion, and accessibility, J40 Initiative, workforce development, and community and labor engagement. An important emphasis for this position is on issues affecting Tribal Nations and Native Americanowned industries which will be addressed through a partnership with the OU Native Nations Center. This is a twelvemonth position with the initial two year’s salary provided through central funds at OU. After that time, the position changes to a grantfunded position requiring it be secured through external contracts.
The hired candidate would support development and implementation of proposals and projects to federal agencies, industry, foundations and other funding sources. The Specialist will work with OU leadership, government, industry, and community partners to establish projectspecific goals, conduct community and labor engagement, and environmental justice assessments in project communities, and assist with the design and implementation of inclusion, accessibility and Justice40 strategies.
Specific duties may include assisting with proposal development, conducting environmental justice analyses using secondary demographic data, analysis of community engagement surveys, facilitating community engagement efforts related to energy projects, and helping Native Nations address questions related to the energy and environmental justice needs of their communities. Close coordination with Tribal leadership and professionals is expected and may be done in consultation or collaboration with the Office of the Associate Vice President of Tribal Relations and the Native Nations Center at OU.

Required Education: MS or PhD. and 36 months Postdoctoral Research Fellow experience
- Advanced knowledge of their field
- Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions or conclusions
- Ability to compile and analyze data
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with individuals, agencies, and other entities to encourage cooperative strategies or develop information and interpret findings
- Excellent verbal and written skills in order to prepare technical and research papers, grant applications, and publish and communicate findings to peers and at conferences

- Must be able to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively. Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods; ability to communicate, including expressing oneself or exchanging information with others; ability to use a computer daily. Standing for prolonged periods and lifting boxes up to 50 lbs.
- MS or PhD in or related field to sociology, geography, anthropology, Native American studies, sustainability, and public policy.
- Experience using secondary census data, knowledge of survey design, administration, analysis, and a basic understanding of spatial techniques.
