As an Employment Development Specialist, you will support all WorkSource lines of business and are capable and ready to serve all WorkSource customers. Providing direct services to job seekers and employers within the WorkSource Office and representing the agency in providing integrated service delivery to all customers. This work directly supports the mission of ESD by partnering to connect employers and job seekers. We are hiring for two (2) full-time/permanent positions for our North Seattle WorkSource office.

Positions in King County are eligible for 5% assignment pay in addition to the salary listed above.

Duties

You will identify customers' needs and conduct individual interviews to articulate program services and activities and direct customers to appropriate internal and external resources and/or support services. We will rely on your intermediate computing skills and sound communication skills as you will enroll and explain program participation requirements. You will work with our customers to develop employment and training plans with the goal of exceeding customer expectations and career goals.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Support the center by directing customers to appropriate program teams, provide timely response and services through all forms of customer service (Phone, email, face-to-face).
  • Develop and sustain relationships with vendors and the community; keep informed of available external resources and referrals.
  • Collaborate with WorkSource partners regarding enrollments, program guidelines, and training recommendations; negotiate and confirm customer eligibility.
  • Attend community meetings and events; represent the workforce partnership process; communicate and work closely with internal and external partners; be responsive to requests.
  • Coordinate resources with partners; communicate and promote agency and partner programs and services to encourage maximum utilization of available incentives.
  • Contact potential employers to identify business needs and determine job opportunities for customers; conduct needs assessment of businesses employee needs.
  • Perform job development to promote the hiring of program participants, develop and monitor on-the-job, work experience, and other training contracts.

This is an in-training opportunity and will be hired as a WorkSource Specialist 3 and is required to successfully complete the training plan in order to promote to the goal class of WorkSource Specialist 4.

Qualifications

What we require you bring to the role:
Qualified candidates will have one (1) or more of the following experiences and/or education. Such as: W orkforce development, customer service, retail, tech support, professional public contact work, unemployment insurance, social services, human resource services, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims.

A combination of education and/or relevant experience* totaling no less than six (6) years.

OR One (1) year of experience as a WorkSource Specialist 2 within the Employment Security Department, or in an equivalent class with another state's Employment Security agency.

Education to Experience Equivalences:
Associate Degree = 2 years | Bachelor Degree = 4 years | Masters or Higher = 5 years
A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

Preferred:
  • Experience facilitating workshops and/or presentations.
  • Experience and/or willingness to learn new technology tools such as recording workshops, developing a podcast, or uploading videos to YouTube.
Additional Requirements of Employment:
  • This position is based in a WorkSource location and requires in-person attendance.
  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
