Emergency Department Advanced Practice Provider (PA or NP) Job at Swope

Swope Grass Valley, CA 95945

We are a small, rural Emergency Department and are currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner or physician assistant to help staff the front end of our ER. We are a 21 bed ed, with a RME area with three flexible treatment areas. We have a hybrid triage model with a nurse and mid level working in a triage room. The mid level provider will see everyone coming through the front door, a rare ambulance patient if the main area is busy, and will manage most of the ESI level 4's that come in during the shift hours.

The ED is staffed with two MD's during the day, NP or PA 11-1130 daytime hours, with a lunch break. Md's are available 20 feet away for consultation, patient discussions, or help with procedures. We review all x-rays and ekgs in real time.

In our friendly, rural ed, we have days which are very busy, mostly in the respiratory viral season, and many mellow days. Flexibility is key, as is prior experience and procedural competence. We have taken new grads and trained mid level providers and would consider for a good candidate, I was a prior residency educator.

The Nurse Practitioner should have prior hands-on experience in emergency medicine and will work closely with the ER staff to ensure that patients receive the highest level of treatment and care. The ideal candidate has experience diagnosing illnesses, administering medications, and has strong interpersonal skills. The Nurse Practitioner will work with the medical team to create a patient care treatment plan, and will also keep medical records updated.

Responsibilities:

  • Have a valid California license to practice, as well as ACLS/PALS/BLS
  • Perform medical examinations and procedures to diagnose and treat injuries and illness.
  • Be comfortable managing low level complaints in patients with chronic conditions.
  • Work with triage nurse and lobby nurse to rapidly evaluate, start work ups, and help organize flow of the department
  • Competence performing appropriate focused history and physical exam.
  • Perform procedures: Suturing, abscess drainage, splinting fractures with minimal or no displacement, relocation of small joints.
