Electrical Engineering Manager Job at Altra Industrial Motion Corp.
Opportunity for an Electrical Engineering Manager to join our Surgical Motor Solutions (SMS) group to lead a team of electromagnetic engineers & test engineers and to help develop custom electronics drive & electromagnetic designs for miniature motor systems. They will also focus on sustaining engineering support for our customers and for the manufacturing team, as well as innovation to enable technology breakthroughs that extend our ability to serve our customer’s unmet needs. In addition to working with the US based teams, they will also work globally on joint projects with our Indian and Swiss R&D teams.
The SMS group focuses primarily on the design of BLDC motors for medical device OEMs. These motors are the heart of the surgical devices they power and directly impact the lives of the surgeons who use them and the patients they treat. The Electrical Engineering Manager is a key member of the R&D team within Portescap and will have broad technical and leadership responsibilities. They should have extensive experience with electric motor design & control system design and should be looking to learn and to bring new knowledge and experience to our engineering team.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a team of electro-magnetic design engineers, test engineers including defining work priorities, executions & team capability development
- Have a focused & flexible approach towards continuous improvements in existing systems, product development & problem-solving processes
- Design and develop new and advanced miniature motor drive systems, drive electronics, from concept to production in a cross functional engineering environment
- Work with customers to create technical proposals for new product applications
- Support manufacturing staff with troubleshooting and provide feedback on quality related topics
- Work closely with Customers, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, or the Commercial Team to gather design inputs from various sources and translate input into engineering requirements
- Develop and integrate innovative technologies that extend the performance and capabilities of our product portfolio
- Support internal and external customer product engineering requests

Job Requirements:
Requirements
- B.S. Electrical Engineering or equivalent required; advanced degree preferred
- 8 or more years of experience in design and manufacturing environment is required
- 8 or more years of experience in electric machine design, electronics drive & controller design is required
- Experience with DC or AC motors including control, testing, specifications, and applications is required
- Experience managing a team is a preferred
- Experience incorporating customer requirements into technical proposals / designs is preferred
- Hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical test equipment such as signal generators, DVM, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, tension/torsion testers, thermal chambers and vibration monitoring is required
- Experience troubleshooting electronics or electrical assemblies is required
- Experience with Magtrol motor test equipment or similar dynamometer systems is preferred
- Experience working directly with customers or external OEMs is preferred
