The Education Director is responsible for oversight of center-based curriculum and instruction, supporting staff and families with the education needs of all children within the center. In the absence of the Principal, the ED is tasked with general leadership for the center, overseeing all aspects of day-to-day operations. The ED is responsible for supporting the Building Principal with the coordination of staff schedules, staying up to date with and enforcing Federal, NYS, and local New York City policies/procedures relating to curriculum, instruction, and supporting children with special needs. While under the direct supervision of the Building Principal, it is important that the ED maintains respectful and collaborative relationships with all leadership and center-based staff.

Essential Skills:

Essential Responsibilities (Includes but, is not limited):
*

  • * Teaching and Learning: Supervise all efforts to implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction that is inclusive of all child and family needs.
  • Ensure teachers have the resources needed to be successful
  • Support the Principal with managing and tracking benchmarks for children
  • Provide training, oversight, and monitoring of all lesson plans, to be sure they are developmentally appropriate and aligned to all necessary early childhood guidelines.
  • Identify and coordinate support for struggling students--those identified as needing an IEP/IFSP or the additional support provided through Mental Health Consultation (e.g., children experiencing trauma)
  • Manage the scheduling of Mental Health Consultation for children, staff, and families
  • Create, support, and maintain a peaceful, collaborative environment to ensure optimal learning and social/emotional progress for each child
  • Collect weekly lesson plans and newsletters in advance, providing teachers with feedback as needed
  • Ensure timely and thoughtful completion of student assessments, at least 3x annually through TSG
  • Guide teachers toward successful implementation of developmental and behavioral screenings, which will inform planning and individualization.
  • Oversee completion of mandated family engagement, including but not limited to home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Request to purchase center-based materials, equipment, and supplies as needed
  • Staff Supervision: Facilitate a professional learning community that embraces ongoing professional development, thoughtful communication, and meaningful collaboration amongst teachers.
  • Foster collegiality and team building amongst classroom teachers
  • Coach and observe teacher performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences
  • Support the process of acquiring, maintaining, and filing all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents as they connect to Curriculum and Instruction
  • Visit classes regularly to measure implementation of the Creative Curriculum to fidelity, which includes an assessment of classroom arrangement, appropriateness of teacher-child interactions, and evidence of assigned units of study
  • Center-Based Operations: Support the Building Principal in ensuring that all compliance measures are in place to ensure smooth day-to-day operations, with specific attention to health, safety, and supervision protocol.
  • Support recruitment, enrollment, and retention of students to maintain maximum program capacity
  • Knowledge of Article 47 and quality program regulations, specifically as they pertain to curriculum and instruction
  • Demonstrate an awareness of school, staff, and community needs; initiate activities to meet those needs
  • Train staff on appropriate child safety measures, initially and ongoing as needed
  • Conduct regular classroom visits to monitor staff understanding of relevant health and safety protocol
  • Respond immediately to concerns from parents and program leadership

Essential Outcomes:

  • A developmentally appropriate/culturally meaningful curriculum is held to fidelity across all classrooms
  • All best practices for professional operations are followed, including but not limited to:
  • Warm, positive reception to all families and visitors
  • Visitor logs are completed and filed accordingly
  • Center is clean and inviting
  • All staff present themselves in a welcoming and professional manner
  • At least 20% of children receive support services through IFSP or IEP.
  • Families are actively engaged in center-based activities, at both the program and classroom level.

The Education Director is expected to perform any new or modified functions as delegated by his/her immediate supervisor or any other member of the leadership team.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
