Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Job Description

Supervise and instruct the Electrical and Instrumentation crew to perform in a cost-effective, safe, and productive manner while protecting the environment and enhancing morale of others.

Job Responsibilities

  • Direct the activities of the Electrical and Instrumentation crew to maintain the property-wide electrical / instrumentation system.
  • Work with the Maintenance Planner, Maintenance Supervisors, and Operations Supervisors to plan and schedule daily work.
  • Assist the Mill Planner in determining technical specifications of equipment.
  • Interface with various equipment manufacturers’ representatives.
  • Work closely with the Mill Supervisor to help meet production goals.
  • Monitor work areas on an ongoing basis to assure safe and cost-efficient maintenance goals.
  • Coordinate with Planning and Warehousing Departments to ensure that all necessary parts, tools, and equipment are available to complete work assignments productively.
  • Responsible for report processing: daily timecards, vacation schedules, accident reports, injury reports, disciplinary action, and accident reports.
  • Must maintain a daily log of work assignments and accomplishments.
  • Prevent needless expenditures and lost production by minimizing equipment downtime through properly executed preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Consistent exercise of discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Responsible for performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and carry out disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance is required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • Necessary technical ability to troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation problems in the mill.
  • Previous electrical and instrumentation crew member experience.
  • May work holidays, shift work, and weekends as required.

Skills

  • Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Strong working knowledge of mill operations.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently, with others in a team environment, and as a member of the management team.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.


Reporting Relationships

  • Serves as a resource to other members of the technical work unit
  • Typically reports into the Mine Superintendent
