Job Summary

The E&I Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for coordinating with internal and external customers to plan, schedule, and execute necessary maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner. Execution of site preventative maintenance activities and supporting capital construction and commission activities. Responsible for communicating effectively with internal customers and outside service providers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of the E&I and mechanical maintenance crafts workforce.
  • Plan maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient technician work.
  • Organize schedules and assign work activity to support terminal objectives.
  • Identify problematic systems or facilities and coordinate with site specialist to determine what repair services need to be performed.
  • Assist Management in hiring of a qualified and properly trained workforce.
  • Assist Management in employee training activities to ensure crafts workers have the requisite skills to complete assigned job tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Assist Management in developing and implementing maintenance procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate with Management on budget development and cost control as needed.
  • Evaluate worker performance to ensure quality of service.
  • Assist Management in maintaining proper personnel records on direct reports.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents and prepare relevant reports.
  • Capable of participating in the terminal emergency response organization and wearing an SCBA and other chemical PPE.
  • Wear appropriate PPE for required task, and safely perform job duties.
  • Provide after-hours and weekend support on a routine call rotation and occasionally as job duties demand
  • Drive a company vehicle.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Industrial Trade School Diploma or equivalent
  • Industrial Crafts Certification – Pipefitter, Millwright or I&E Technician preferred.
  • Technical College Degree preferred
  • 10 or more years of experience as a craftsman in an industrial maintenance setting.
  • 10 or more years of supervisory experience in an industrial maintenance setting – chemical manufacturing and/or chemical logistics terminal preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT’s terminal locations.
  • Background in planning/scheduling of industrial maintenance activities in a computerized maintenance management system (SAP, EAM, etc.)

Skills and Abilities

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
  • Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
  • Must be a team player, responsible, trustworthy, and have leadership skills..
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-direct work and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy – Access, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
  • Capable of participating in and leading the terminal emergency response organization per the documented terminal incident command structure.
  • Professional safety training.

Hours of Work

  • Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday but can be unusual hours as necessary.
  • This position requires overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment as well as the outside environment where temperatures routinely reach 95 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
  • This would require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.
  • Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.
  • Ability to wear and use a respirator or and PPE.
  • The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the applicant have the ability to walk and stand on uneven terrain, to climb stairs and ladders, and traverse inclines: uphill, downhill or mixed. Furthermore, because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the applicant must be able to ingress and egress in foreseeable emergencies. The applicant must be able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
