Drivers Education Instructor (Classroom and Car)

The Burnt Hills — Ballston Lake High School Drivers' Education Program is seeking a bright, energetic, and reliable Driver's Education classroom and car instructor to lead a group of eager teenagers. The Drivers' Education instructor will be responsible for teaching students the rules of the road and the safe way to handle an automobile. The ideal candidate must have a valid MV-283 certificate, a valid NYS Teaching Certificate, and a passion for educating others.

Duties and responsibilities

Over the course of a semester, students will receive 24 hours of classroom instruction, 18 hours of in-car observation, and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

  • Educate students as to the rules and regulations of the NY DMV.

Conduct classes with subject matter experts.

Maintain a consistent and safe environment for the students.

Knowledge of the classroom curriculum as per NYS DMV and State Education

  • Ability to identify and apply current state law and regulations applicable to the ownership and operation of a motor vehicle in NYS
  • Organization of lessons and preparation to conduct classroom instruction
  • Ability to maintain a learning environment and management of a class
  • Ability to assess, monitor and adjust performance as necessary

Time management

  • Record keeping for grading purposes
  • Written communication skills
  • Oral instruction presentation and delivery techniques
  • Ability to use visual aids and technical apparatus pertinent to the program's curriculum

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Must have MV-283 certificate
  • Must have clean/valid NYS driver's license, minimum of 10 years
  • Experience is preferred as a Drivers' Education instructor

Working conditions

Program runs 16 weeks in the Fall and Spring semesters, with a 6 week program in the Summer. All classes (theory and car) are after school hours, with the summer running in the morning.
