St. Denis-St. Columba School seeks a part-time Drama/Theater Teacher to work directly with students in an after-school setting. The Drama teacher is responsible for directing two student-led theater productions each school year – one in the Fall and one in the Spring. This is a non-tenure track, contract position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the direction and preparation of two student-led theater productions. (One for students in Grades 4 and 5; one for students in Grades 6-8).
• Responsible for leading all aspects of each theater production including, but limited to casting, lighting, sound and set design.
• Lead students in learning theater skills.
• Build a classroom culture in which students develop a love of theater.
• Create a nurturing, supportive and caring environment in which students can learn and interact positively with one another.
• Conduct auditions, lessons and rehearsals as necessary.
• Share a love of theater and an enthusiasm that enriches the lives of children.
• Guide students in rehearsal of appropriate theater routines.
• Share a love of theater and an enthusiasm that enriches the lives of children.
• Understands the behavior, emotional, and cognitive needs of elementary and middle school students.
• Performs other duties related to the position as assigned.

Job Qualifications

• Must have a strong passion for theater to share with students in Grades 4-8.
• Must have theater experience as a performer, stagehand or director.
• Must be able to facilitate a class, ensuring appropriate student conduct.
• Must have teaching experience and/or have worked with children in a performing arts setting.
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of our students a must.
• Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
• Must be punctual and self-motivated.
• Extensive undergraduate coursework and/or degree in an arts-related discipline and/or prior teaching experience strongly preferred.
• Successful background check and completion of Safer Spaces Training upon hire.
• MUST live within commutable distance of the school.
