Definition

The City of Martinez is hiring seasonal, part-time workers to assist with keeping the Downtown Martinez clean.

Duties:
As a Downtown Attendant you will be responsible for performing variety of grounds keeping and minor maintenance tasks to keeping Main Street, Castro Street, Estudillo Street, Ferry Street, and Las Jauntas Street clean and up to acceptable standards (possible extension if time allows). Work will performed under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Assist with seasonal Maintenance of the Landscaping- included but not limited to: pruning, weeding, water, and removal of leaves.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and litter
  • Perform routine manual work as required
  • Assist with emptying garbage and recycling
  • Clean and maintain the municipal owner bathrooms

Schedule is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 7:00AM to 3:30PM (6 month assignment).
Up tp p to 27 hours per week. Maximum 1000 hours per fiscal year.
This position is not eligible for City benefits.

Representative Duties

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:


  • Incumbent will be walking an assigned route clearing litter and debris from within the Public space.
  • Must have some experience using a blower and other tools to maintain a pleasant approachable demeanor as well as ensuring the area is clean.
  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance activities; willingness to perform routine manual tasks; ability to follow simple oral and written directions; physical condition to commensurate with demands of the position.
  • Must become familiar with businesses and streets the provide directions and recommendations to the visitors in the area with a friendly, approachable manner.

Qualifications/Education/Experience

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent; good physical condition to perform strenuous outdoor work; ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination; possess a valid Class B California driver's license or obtain one within six (6) months of hire date with a satisfactory driving record.

Desirable: Knowledge of the purpose and use of common hand and portable power tools used in grounds or public works maintenance activities; ability to perform physical work requiring coordination, agility, strength, and stamina; to understand and carry out oral and simple written instructions; and to learn the duties of the position and the operation of hand and portable power tools.
