Job Overview:
The Development Officer l position at Shriners Children’s Boston is a hospital-based position that reports directly to the Boston hospital's Director of Philanthropy. Identifies and cultivates prospective donors in the local community from whom to solicit gifts. Nurture donor relationships through regular contact, communication and recognition. For the purpose of fundraising, develops and maintains relationships with hospital-affiliated Shriner Temples and the local community and beyond.

Responsible for following and fulfilling the objectives and goals disseminated by Shriners Children's national and local boards. Manages all components of copy, design and implementation of philanthropy marketing and communications in partnership with Office of Philanthropy staff and PR/marketing colleagues. Provides logistical support for all hospital events including signature fundraising event the Boston Haunted Walk and 3rd party events in New England. Directs, mentors, trains and supports a hospital-based development assistant.

The position requires the willingness and ability to travel as needed and willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends when necessary. Initially this position is in-person with future opportunity to work a hybrid work model.
Responsibilities:

Donor Development Marketing and Communications 30%

  • Oversight of philanthropy marketing and communications efforts and digital promotion of special events including but not limited to Boston Haunted Walk, 3rd party events, and donor meetings and check presentations using Classy, My Emma, social media and other digital platforms.
  • Ad hoc graphic design support using Canva and other cloud based graphic software.
  • Photography and video support for donor events and digital communication efforts


Donor Cultivation and Stewardship 30%

  • Identify and research new and prospective donors.
  • Help build relationships with donors, colleagues and Shriners by engaging and cultivating mid-level donors $500-$999.
  • Plans and implements strategies for stewardship of donors.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Philanthropy in major donor cultivation and special events.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with affiliated Shrine Temples, Shrine clubs and units and local community support (Third Party Events) for fundraising support.
  • Solicit raffle and giveaways incentives from corporate partners for Boston Haunted Walk and other events throughout the year like Hospital Week
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with hospital-affiliates Shriner Temples (fraternal organization), local hospital Philanthropy Committee, and within the local community for the purpose of elevating giving.
  • Develops outreach activities aimed at increasing the number of donor prospects at all giving levels.

Administrative Responsibilities 25%

  • Primary contact on in-kind gifts and Amazon wish List in coordination with Child Life
  • Supports the gift acknowledgement and donor recognition procedures for donations and gifts-in-kind through Blackbaud CRM while helping to maintain data integrity in database.
  • Manages expenses and AP expenses submission to Finance for the Office of Philanthropy
  • Maintains and prepares meeting minutes, complex data and detailed reports.
  • Mentors, trains and supports a hospital-based Development Assistant.
  • Works closely with the hospital leadership, Board of Governors leadership, and the Senior Regional and Corporate Directors in responding to strategic hospital and corporate institutional priorities by meeting annual donor activity and philanthropic revenue goals.
  • General Office of Philanthropy support as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, not required.
  • 1-2 years’ work experience in fundraising, marketing and/or communications field preferred
  • Strong donor-centric written and verbal communications skills
  • Willingness to learn and advance experience with cloud base design solutions like My Emma, Classy and Canva
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and prioritization skills.
  • Computer literate and working knowledge of software applications like Microsoft Office Suite and enterprise level fundraising database experience a plus.
  • Demonstrate diplomacy, tact and a professional demeanor.
  • A working knowledge of fundraising concepts.
  • Willingness to travel within New England region to meet with donors/prospects as need arises.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple demands.
  • Proven ability to make decisions, work independently and as a team player.
