District Justice Clerk I - District Court 15-1-02
This position provides the District Court with basic level support services utlizing the Magisterial District Judge system. Work is performed under close supervision of the office supervisor and reviewed for accuracy. Candidate is responsible for case processing following the guidelines established by the State and County Rules of Court. Must possess the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. The individual applying for this position must have basic computer knowledge, communication skills, clerical abilities, and operate standard office equipment. Good organization skills, ability to prioritize work and interact with the public by telephone and in person is required


Essential Duties

  • Docket traffic, non-traffic, civil and criminal complaints.
  • Schedule hearings and record depositions at hearings.
  • Collect, record, balance and deposit payments.
  • Mail out citations through certified mail.
  • Prepare, issue or recall warrants (print and serve to constables).
  • Process and distribute daily mail.
  • Create reports and/or lists as required.
  • Perform clerical functions, as needed (type, fax, copy, etc.).
  • Customer Service (answer phones, wait on customers at counter).
  • Maintain file system.
  • Order and maintain supplies.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Six months to one year of job-related experience and/or training.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work directly with the public.
  • Strong and accurate typing and data processing skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills and the ability to handle money.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, copier, postage machine, etc.)

    Preferred Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
  • One to two years of administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of vehicle laws and regulations.
  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of standard district court procedures and policies
  • Able to provide procedural information without providing legal advice.
  • Ability to follow AOPC processing guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Crimes Code.
