iBRAIN is one of the largest brain-injury special education programs in the world based in New York City (with locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn) and is expanding to add an out-patient clinic as well as growing its research efforts for the brain injury and brain-based disorders community. iBRAIN’s mission is to research, develop and implement special education and related services for students with brain injury and brain-based disorders.

Position Title: Director of Physical Therapy – Full-time position to change the world for the millions of children and adults with brain based disorders and families who have a child with a brain injury or brain based disorders.

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Related Services Director and the Program Director of iBRAIN, with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, the Director of Physical Therapy will oversee the physical therapy department across two sites in New York City (Upper East Side in Manhattan and Sunset Park in Brooklyn).

Desirable attributes include clinical experience with acquired brain injury, management of interdisciplinary teams, a strong foundation of research skills, keen strategic focus. The successful individual is a natural leader who fosters an environment that promotes innovation and continuous improvement, effective, transparent communication with key constituents and stakeholders, and accountability for results.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and implementation of educational modules for staff in-services and accrediting bodies to include but not limited to IACET (International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of research and development within the discipline and any institutional efforts
  • Manage Physical Therapy services, documentation, supervision of PT staff
  • Collaborate with each student’s special education teacher and therapy team of speech therapists, physical therapists, and teachers of the visually impaired
  • Prepare Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s) and quarterly progress reports
  • Collaborate with parents as necessary and involve them in their child's activities and progress on a regular basis
  • Utilize a multi-sensory approach incorporating art, music and technology to design lessons to increase students’ communication, social, and life skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • > 15 years experience in Pediatric Physical Therapy
  • Doctorate preferred
  • Supervisory experience
  • Must have valid New York State License as a Physical Therapist
  • Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds independently
  • Clinical experience with children with brain based disorders and neurological involvement
  • NDT training, experience is preferred
  • Research experience is preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal, problem solving, communication skills, along with the ability to take initiative, and a highly flexible personality type
