Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field or Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with 3 – 5 years of experience:
- Using technology such as Banner (SIS system), Degree Works, Fortis, Electronic Imaging (Docuware), CRM (Customer Relationship Management System), TES, Webfocus and/or Tableau.
- Evidence of project management.
- Ability to analyze data.
- Supervisory experience (student or professional staff).
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- Must value working as a member of a team and possess strong customer service skills.

Masters Degree in related field with 5 years of experience:
- Using technology such as Banner, Degree Works, Electronic Imaging (Fortis/Docuware), Slate, Webfocus and/or Tableau.
- Ability to write and analyze reports.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement new technology that supports efficient business practices.
- Experience working with the public and applying diplomacy to resolve conflict.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The
Director of Operations will provide leadership to the transfer credit articulation team and the operations team and will direct a transfer operations center to include all processing of transfer admissions and managing incoming calls, emails, texts, and other various communications for transfer recruiters.
This leadership includes managing the operational and technology functions in the credit articulation unit, the recruitment team, the advising team, the transfer admissions decision team, and the overall administrative areas of Transfer Admissions & Engagement (TAE). This will also include oversight of TAE processes in Slate, Banner, Docuware, Webfocus, TES, and Degreeworks. This position is charged with finding efficiencies for TAE processes in each area. Additionally, this person serves as the primary resource for data and reporting as well as the lead for developing articulation agreements between the University and NC community colleges. This position supervises 6 SHRA staff members.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Administrative

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Administrative
- Serves as the subject matter expert on areas related to transfer credit evaluation (of all types and for all Appalachian students), policies and procedures, as well as technology and workflows for directing a transfer operations center to include all processing of transfer admissions and managing incoming communications (calls, emails, texts) for transfer recruiters.
- Provides leadership and supervision to the articulation unit and operations team by setting expectations, measuring and positively motivating job performance, and regularly monitoring technology needs to ensure efficient business practices.
- Identifies, implements, and manages projects and provides expertise in data acquisition and reporting using Banner, Slate, Tableau Analytics, Webfocus, Degree Works, TES, IRAP, and UNC System dashboards.
- Identifies work priorities; schedules work and projects; ensures that work is completed in a timely manner.
- Recommends policies and establishes procedures that improve the articulation of credit, admissions decisioning, and online student application processing that supports the student and the institutional mission.
- Anticipates potential changes in transfer student demographics over time and how such changes might be proactively addressed to promote success for TAE and Appalachian.
- Collaborates with the TAE leadership team to establish unit goals and project outcomes related to transfer articulation, operations, and TAE as a whole.
- Coordinates with other offices (particularly First Year Admissions, the Registrar’s Office, the CRM/Slate team, and EM Communications) to ensure that workflows, processes, and procedures are effective and consistent.
- Provides oversight and compliance for state initiatives that impact the transfer process (Comprehensive & Statewide Articulation Agreements) and/or the transfer of credit that require technical support, such as UNC Online, Reverse Transfer, UNC Common Course Numbering System (CNS), etc.
- Works closely with academic departments to manage the review process for external credit by exam and the consistent review of course equivalencies.
- Works with University and community college representatives, as well as the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, to coordinate the creation and implementation of statewide and local articulation agreements.
- Stays abreast of campus, statewide, and national transfer initiatives that relate to the transfer of credit.
Technical
- Resolves functional problems with the Office of Admissions, Office of the Registrar, ITS, other campus partners, and the UNC System as needed.
- Creates transfer student profile reports of incoming transfer class.
- Produces reports for campus community and community college partners related to transfer student demographics, retention, and student success.
- Researches and makes recommendations to support efficient business practices in all areas of TAE utilizing current and new technologies.
- Trains department chairs, deans’ offices, and advising units on the use of the electronic petition process and the TES system.
- Researches problems related to data and processes in Banner, Slate, Webfocus, Tableau Analytics, Docuware, Tableau, and TES. Ensures accuracy of Banner catalogs (courses and institutions) including maintaining Banner jobs that reflect changes/updates on the catalogs.
Communication
- Collaborates with TAE and First Year Admissions staff to develop and provide oversight of the transfer communication plan for prospective, applicant, and admitted students.
- Identifies and implements strategies to inform campus community, community colleges and UNC System of pertinent transfer data and reports for strategic planning purposes.
- Engages in regular communication with department chairs, General Education, and advising units across campus to inform and evaluate policies and procedures related to the transfer of credit.
- Provides up-to-date information regarding policies and/or procedural changes to the articulation of transfer credit to academic units across campus.
- Works closely with the Director of Transfer Recruitment & Retention to ensure that the TAE website is current and relevant to all constituents.
