Position Summary:

The Director of Housing Operations and Administration serves all of The Fortune Society’s (“Fortune”) housing programs, promoting cross-departmental collaboration, as well as specified departmental support as needed. This includes providing administrative and managerial support to Scattered Site Housing Property Management. This role will ensure development and implementation of administrative controls, goal visibility & measurement, and program compliance measurements. Additionally, the Director of Housing Operations and Administration will act as a liaison to the LIC/Main Office with an overall goal of strengthening all of Fortune’s housing programs, fostering agency growth, and ensuring alignment with overall agency mission and standard.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, develop and implement procedures according to programmatic, or agency mission, and fiscal objectives. Coordinate the team to implement updates to protocols, procedures, and systems in support of goals.
  • Interdepartmental coordination: Develop strategies and coordinate implementation plans to standardize and improve the operation of Fortune’s housing programs. Analyze and ensure efficient use of resources, staffing, & office logistics across Fortune’s housing programs.
  • Specified Departmental Support: Identify and target operational needs within Harlem based programs. Work with AVP’s of Congregate and Scattered Site Housing to improve efficiencies and set strategic goals. Monitor and analyze goals, metrics and needs for timely completion of deliverables, ensure departmental sustainability.
  • Liaison with LIC regarding agency-wide strategic goals & initiatives, and operational activities. Collaborate with executive team regarding long-term operational plans and performance goals.
  • Liaison with HR: coordinate with HR and Harlem staff re: staff onboarding, training requirements, employee relations & HR initiatives.
  • Liaison with IT and Facilities departments; coordinate space renovations and updates, ensure site technology is efficient for site needs and growth.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with department leaders, executive team, external partners, and vendors. Uphold agency mission, policies, and standard.
  • Oversee the administrative functions of the Congregate and Scattered Site Housing programs to ensure apartment unit acquisition, furniture purchase, client move out, apartment clean-outs, and donation pick-ups.
  • Supervises direct reports which may include, but shall not be limited to both the Operations Associate for Harlem Operations and The Housing Specialist in the Scattered Site Housing Program.
  • Works with Finance Department in connection with the operation of Property Management.
  • Shall be available to handle all other issues that come within the scope of work of the Director of Housing Operations and Administration.


Reporting Structure:

The Director of Housing Operations and Administration primarily reports to the Associate Vice President for Congregate Housing on all Fortune housing matters and secondarily to the Associate Vice President of Scattered Site Housing for all administrative matters related to the Scattered Site Housing Program.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent skill set and experience; some degree of higher and/or technical education in Human Services, Business Administration, Building Operations highly preferred.
  • Minimum five years of progressive relevant experience in executive level office support.
  • Minimum three years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills-MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of building operations.
  • Knowledge of building management.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and oversee programs & personnel.
  • Ability to prioritize ongoing and new projects as well as conduct research, gather information and assess ongoing and new agency needs.
