The Office of Career Development at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is offering an exciting career opportunity as the Director of Career Development. We are seeking an action-oriented professional to lead and oversee a comprehensive career development program and foster the operationalization of an employer outreach and engagement strategy to expand recruiting relationships with the University. As the Office of Career Development seeks to grow, engage, and cultivate a career-everywhere culture, the Director will lead strategic initiatives and ensure the delivery of outstanding career development programs, services and communication.
The successful candidate must be a people-centered leader who demonstrates a commitment to customer service and excellence in career services. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible, non-faculty exempt position that reports to the Senior Director of Student Union & Activities. The Office of Career Development is part of the Division of Student Affairs.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Communicate, develop and uphold best practices, policies, and procedures related to student recruitment in alignment with the code of ethics of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), as well as federal and state legislation.
  • Supervise staff and direct the work of the Office of Career Development in areas of career coaching, program development and employer outreach/engagement.
  • Lead the Office of Career Development team and University partners (when appropriate) to manage career fairs (in-person or virtual) and additional events, including day-of-event execution.
  • Facilitate productive relationships between and the University community and the career development office, including but not limited to students, faculty/staff, Alumni Association, and SDSU Foundation.
  • Conceptualize, plan, implement, promote, and evaluate a portfolio of innovative event initiatives to address career needs and to connect employers with students and faculty/staff.
  • Coordinate on-campus recruitment efforts to address needs and resources, employer and student accessibility, and policy/procedure formulation.
  • Oversee the administration of career management and recruiting platforms (e.g., Handshake, FOUCS 2).
  • Supervise team of professionals to carry out the work of office.
  • Attend events, visit employer sites, and host organizations on campus for employer development and cultivation purposes.
  • Provide individual and group support and programming to educate students on strategies for internship and job searches, evaluation of job offers, and negotiation of salary offers.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to student success initiatives and events as identified by departmental and University leadership.
  • Effectively manage fiscal resources and align budget based on strategic priorities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Master’s degree in Business, Counseling, Communications, Education, Human Resource Management or related field completed by date of application.
  • More than 5 years of experience working in career counseling, career services, employer relations, recruitment, human resources, workforce development, or business marketing/sales, or related field.
  • People-centered professional who demonstrates a commitment to providing exceptional customer service to all stakeholders.
  • Experience supervising and training staff.
  • Evidence of working knowledge of contemporary recruitment practices, job search strategies, workforce trends, and employer engagement.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and organize multiple time-sensitive projects and tasks through a strategic lens.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to maintain composure in a deadline-filled environment that requires flexibility to meet needs of multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to conceptualize, coordinate, and implement innovative career-related programs and events that can be delivered in person or in a virtual format to diverse constituents.
  • Effective written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Experience in University career services and/or employer recruitment management.
  • Experience with career management and recruiting software technology (e.g., Handshake, FOUCS 2 Career).
  • Strength in marketing and communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in developing and stewarding relationships and partnerships with a variety of constituents.
  • Advanced experience in budget development and management.
  • Experience in report writing demonstrating program outcomes.
