General Responsibilities

The Anesthesia Services Director has overall responsibility for managing a regional group of the assigned Gastroenterology specialty medical practices, including accountability for operations, financial performance, managing client relationships, strategic implementation, and people management. Position is responsible for the overall program management of Anesthesia Service’s strategic initiatives, ongoing updating of the strategic plan, keeper of market intelligence, development of value-added services and program management and partnership with market leaders in the development of individual market strategies.
Qualifications

Education/Training : Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Five years of related anesthesia or ambulatory surgery department experience.
  • Must have management experience / functioned in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience working in partnership with health care professionals in leadership roles.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Possesses a broad knowledge of issues, trends, practices, and systems related to health care delivery acquired through a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent leadership skills, ability to work with a team, excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organizational skills, understanding of budgeting and monitoring/analyzing variance from budget.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a collaborative and facilitative style.

Essential Duties

General

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the day-to-day operations of the USDH Anesthesia Services Division of USDH.
  • Manages the profitability of the USDH Anesthesia service line and identifies opportunities to make this service more effective and more financially sustainable.
  • Drives Best Practices to achieve operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for developing departmental goals and objectives.
  • Develops and implements protocols to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Develops Anesthesia policies and procedures in coordination with clinical staff, Medical Directors of Anesthesia Services, and MSO leadership.
  • Works to create an environment that engages the team and allows for the attainment of organizational goals.
  • Initiates operational projects and safety and quality improvement initiatives
  • Promotes a service culture through appropriate education and management of staff.
  • Conducts regular meetings of anesthesia department and documents meeting minutes of these meetings.
  • Supports Medical Directors with their assigned duties, including efforts to improve quality and patient safety.
  • Supports the development of the departmental budget and oversees budget compliance.
  • Meets with vendors to learn about products and services; obtains product information used in making purchase recommendations.
  • Works with Finance in budget development and monthly monitoring of volumes and financials.
  • Manages daily financial operations to ensure optimal utilization and reconciliation of operational funds.
  • Analyzes and researches departmental budget(s) to locate errors and/or omissions, balance account records, and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Monitors and approves expenditures including supply orders and expense reimbursements
  • Maintains a current contact list for credentialed anesthesia providers. Establish a process for clinical record review and quality assurance metrics around anesthesia.

Human Resource-related tasks

  • Supervises staff and employee performance.
  • Identifies anesthesia-related hiring needs and makes recommendations for approval by Practice and MSO leadership.
  • Assists in the recruitment and selection of high-quality staff. Creates a work environment that attracts, retains, and engages the highest quality staff.
  • Participates in development of an organized and consistent orientation and onboarding process.
  • Oversees onboarding of new anesthesia staff to ensure that credentialing, privileging, and all human resource requirements are met prior to being scheduled to see patients in an endoscopy center.
  • Oversees the effective scheduling of anesthesia staff for all locations and ensures that endoscopy centers are staffed with licensed, credentialed, anesthesia providers at all times.
  • Develops work schedules and monitors and directs workflow.
  • Participates in scheduling of per diem, part time and float staff to assist division leads in filling coverage gaps.
  • Oversees payroll/time reporting process ensuring proper pay for staff, compliance with policies, and approval of overtime and/or incentive programs.
  • Documents and monitors staff activities for compliance with quality control standards.
  • Ensures high standards of performance by proactively addressing performance issues, including coaching and disciplinary conversations and by feedback provided through the performance appraisal process. Provides on-going performance feedback, addresses problems, orients, and trains employees, verifies competency and identifies and suggests ways to develop skills.
  • Participates in determination of disciplinary, termination and salary actions.
  • Maintains departmental PTO balances, contracts, credentialing files, time sheets, work schedules and other documents related to department operations.
  • Evaluates and coordinates staff training needs and programs.
  • Coordinates appropriate in-services, orientation, and on- going training programs.
  • Serves as a resource to less experienced staff and serves as a liaison to other departments.

Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances. Travel may be required.
