Ameritas is looking for our nextDirector, Actuarial to join our Corporate Actuarial team.This position will lead a new team focusing on model validation and controls. This detail-oriented, results-driven individual will have advanced knowledge of industry model risk management and control practices and standards and assume the lead in the assigned responsibilities. This position is essential for the company's management of risk and to assure the appropriate level of profitability. This position is expected to provide actionable information that enables good business decisions and is accountable for project initiatives and business processes within job area.

What you do

  • Lead a team of individuals responsible for model risk management oversight
  • Provide ownership of the overall control framework for the department
  • Oversee end-to-end model validation and testing including fit for purpose and risk assessment
  • Perform detailed policy audit testing
  • Oversee strong documentation and training of control environment
  • Build and cultivate internal and external relationships to promote and grow the business
  • Oversee and accountable for business plans while focusing on results and measurements
  • Direct and influence associate and business resources to achieve business results
  • Build strategy around the organization's Purpose, Mission, Vision and Values
  • Monitor the external markets to ensure industry best practices
  • Provide oversight on stress testing and scenario analysis to equip management to make strategic decisions
  • Consult and represent Ameritas to external stakeholders
  • Design, test and maintain actuarial models for the specified actuarial purpose
  • Responsible for training and developing team members
  • Develop partnerships within the organization to engage in cross-functional business initiatives

What you bring

  • Bachelor's in Actuarial Science, Mathematics Statistics or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 7-10+ years of actuarial experience, including at least 2 years in a formal modeling or control-based environment
  • Prophet software knowledge strongly preferred
  • 4+ years of leadership or management experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of life, annuity, disability income and/or retirement plans products with preference toward knowledge of indexed products
  • Associate or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation. Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products and concepts, actuarial theory and techniques, and regulation of the insurance industry.
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed calculations with a high-level of understanding.
  • Ability to clearly and thoroughly document assumptions, decisions, processes, and other work performed.
  • Project management experience with the ability to multi-task and switch back and forth between projects as needed.

Salary range $140,000 - $230,000
