Director-Apprenticeship/Work-Based Learning Programs

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Reporting to the Executive Director of Apprenticeships and Workforce Solutions, the Director of Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning Programs serves as a liaison between business and civic partners and CCC faculty and administrators to facilitate the growth and expansion of apprenticeships and other work-based learning opportunities for students enrolled in degree and certificate programs district-wide.


The Director of Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning Programs is responsible for effectively integrating employer’s criteria and job requirements for apprenticeships and work-based learning programs with academic/educational programs and curriculum, with the goal of providing students with opportunities to gain valuable job skills tied to their program of study and employers with a pipeline to a talented workforce that aligns with their workforce needs.


The position also works collaboratively with sponsors/employers and key stakeholders within CCC in the ongoing maintenance and expansion of apprenticeships in sectors that have not typically used apprenticeships to bring new employees into the workforce, including but not limited to IT, banking and finance, insurance, manufacturing, food service, and healthcare. Performs related duties as required


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Works collaboratively with faculty and college administrators to structure academic programs and curriculum to ensure students’ academic progress effectively aligns with and supports the job requirements of apprenticeship or work-based learning programs.
  • Consults with and advises faculty and college administrators engaged in developing curriculum, creating course work, and planning the sequencing of courses to ensure proper coordination with employer sponsored apprenticeship and work-based learning programs.
  • Develops and creates program work plans in coordination with sponsors/employers to develop schedules and timetables delineating their work and academic responsibilities including work schedule/hours, compensation, employer expectations, course requirements, and expected academic progress.
  • Coordinates and oversees the delivery of professional development training, providing students with access to workshops and additional resources to enhance their technical and soft skills, plan their academic and career goals, and support them in achieving success.
  • Monitors performance of apprenticeship and work-based learning programs, conferring on a regular basis with sponsors and CCC administrators and proactively mitigating issues.
  • Compiles and analyzes cohort performance and provides periodic assessment to Executive Director of Apprenticeships and Workforce Solutions.
  • Works with employers and college administrators in the placement and oversight of talented and motivated students in apprenticeships and other work-based learning programs.
  • Supervises staff engaged in providing programmatic support and performing monitoring and reporting functions to ensure operational efficiency of programs and ensure adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Participates in developing and deploying marketing materials and strategies aimed at both students and employer audiences.
  • Promotes work-based learning programs by conducting outreach and participating in recruitment efforts to increase the number of and access to work-based learning opportunities by students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public Administration, Higher Education or a related field.
  • Five years of work experience in academic/business/industry management
  • College level curriculum development and teaching experience highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience establishing partnerships with business and civic organizations and higher education institutions
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing apprenticeship and work-based learning programs
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of theory and practices associated with apprenticeship, internship and other work-based learning programming at community colleges
  • Knowledge of industries and industry trends and their workforce needs
  • Knowledge of academic policies for aligning programs of study with labor market needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.
