Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept

Position Summary
The Digital Accessibility Support Specialist provides direct digital accessibility support to members of the campus community who are designing or procuring new, public-facing digital resources. Responsibilities for this position include:
Consultation and Support (40%):
  • Provide direct digital accessibility support to campus constituents in-person and via phone, video meeting, email, or ticketing system.
  • Create, service, and complete help requests in the ticketing system and requests for consultation with appropriate resources and assistance.
  • Monitor and respond to quality assurance and accessibility reports in Siteimprove for the OIT website.
  • Process incoming professional captioning requests for audiovisual content on public-facing campus websites.
  • Complete accessibility documentation reviews for technology procurements with expected user impact levels above 99 users.
  • Engage in manual and automated functional accessibility assessment as needed for high impact or critical campus technology procurements.

Support Content Management (40%):
  • Work with the Digital Accessibility and Content manager to support and coordinate digital accessibility service operations.
  • Create and maintain accessible, inclusive, and user-friendly written and audiovisual support content for digital accessibility services.
  • Conduct advanced research to ensure the accuracy, usability, and quality of written and audiovisual support content for digital accessibility.
Team Project and Task Support (15%):
  • Contribute to team projects by creating project documentation, aiding in setting goals and deadlines, and following up on action items and deliverables.
  • Provide frontline digital accessibility support perspective to teammates and other OIT teams as needed.
  • Help project team members keep up with tasks and assignments as needed.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
A successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in all of the following:
  • Digital accessibility law and guidelines, including but not limited to the Americans with Disabilities Act and the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Creating, editing, and remediating accessible HTML content using a content or learning management system like Canvas or Confluence
  • Creating, editing, and remediating accessible portable document files using PDF editing software like Adobe Acrobat Pro or Foxit PhantomPDF
  • Working in a collaborative, technical, team-oriented environment on projects and service delivery
  • Providing direct customer support and communicating with both technical and non-technical customers
  • Consulting with procuring parties and digital content creators to support the evaluation and remediation of digital resources for accessibility and usability

Preferred Qualifications
A successful candidate will have experience and knowledge in some of the following:
  • Testing the accessibility of digital resources using industry-leading assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, ZoomText, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.
  • Expertise in technical writing, digital content management, and/or audio and video production
  • Experience in technical usability and quality assurance testing for both HTML and non-HTML content

Work Days/Hours

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting salary rate for this position will be between $16.12/hr and $19.34/hr. An excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
