Description
Kentucky has a dynamic WIC Program supporting the health and well-being of mothers and children of the Commonwealth. This position is located in the Department for Public Health (DPH), Division of Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition Services Branch. The Dietetics Educator plans, develops, monitors and provides nutrition education for the food package program for the WIC Program. DPH has the ability to be competitive in its pay structure.

This is a federally funded time limited (FFTL) position. This means it is a position that is paid entirely as the result of a federal grant. The duration of employment shall not exceed the life of the federal grant that funds the position. An employee appointed to an FFTL position is required to meet the minimum requirements for the classification. Further, an employee appointed to an FFTL position is designated as an unclassified (non- merit) employee. An FFTL employee is eligible to receive benefits at the same level as a classified (merit) employee in a permanent position.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Reviews federal regulations, policies and procedures to help to develop state policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Federal Regulations.
  • Assesses need to provide statewide technical assistance and training for the WIC Program regarding WIC Policies and Procedures, WIC Food Packages, WIC Nutrition Education Requirements and WIC Formula and Medical Foods.
  • Provides technical assistance and onsite monitoring to local health departments to ensure understanding of the WIC Policies and Procedures.
  • Reviews system reports and local and national surveillance data and federal studies to determine progress toward health outcomes.
  • Develops and reviews Federally required WIC Nutrition Education Plan for local WIC agencies.
  • Develops and revises nutrition education materials for the WIC Participants and local health professionals.
  • Attends committee, partnership and coalition meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Board of Licensure and Certification for Dietitians and Nutritionists http://bdn.ky.gov Must be registered as a dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the American Dietetic Association. http://www.cdrnet.org Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.
