The Holland Computing Center seeks to hire a DevOps Engineer to develop and maintain cyberinfrastructure for the Holland Computing Center (HCC) and national and international collaborations. We are looking for a curious mind that can work independently and, on a team, to seek out solutions. It is expected that the candidate will learn significantly on-the-job. The position will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge research hardware, including high speed networking, containerization and virtualization, GPUs and FPGAs, and the newest processors and hardware available.
Various tasks including the following will be required: maintaining and upgrading hardware, operating systems, and related aspects (networking, storage, computing) of various systems; managing user accounts; installing new software (commercial and public domain); maintaining system security; monitoring system usage; evaluating, recommending and/or negotiating specific hardware purchases. The position will administer Kubernetes both production and research clusters running cutting edge software and hardware. Experience with Kubernetes and Linux virtualization or containerization technologies is desirable but not required. Position works in cooperation with other University staff and researchers associated with research computing. Position requires frequent and effective communication of technical, operational, and educational information in a variety of formats. Periodic travel to collaboration meetings is expected. Remote work is an option for this position.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate’s degree in computer science, system administration, or other related field; equivalent education/experience considered. Experience in systems administration of multiple machines, as well as programming and systems knowledge in LINUX is necessary. Scripting proficiency (e.g. Bash, Python, Perl). Demonstrated expertise with Linux/Unix operating systems. Ability to communicate and work with a team. Will have to be able to commute between HCC sites and travel to meet with collaborators on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. Experience with: Linux cluster provisioning tools (e.g. Puppet, Cobbler, Ansible); large scale monitoring tools (e.g. Nagios, Ganglia, PefSONAR); Kubernetes and Linux containerization technologies is desirable. Experience with large scale cluster environments is highly desirable. Experience with software to manage and use GPUs and FPGAs. Experience with the OSG, NRP, or another distributed computing platform.

Posted Salary $60,000/ yr minimum
